Do you get an error message when messaging stops working? If so, what is the error message?

Hi I was getting the following * unfortunately messaging has stopped working *, I tried to unistal from the apps menu but I only had *disable* option. So I backed up my phone and several times I tried to disable until the phone unistaled the app provided it Mr with a choice of new app so I downloaded one and it is functioning.
