MarcisB: I think you are not explaining this problem correctly. It looks like a system bug. And for someone blaiming spotify, I have the problem without having spotify or never used walkman. For me, the space disappear for just using the phone, and for me it has accelerated by using navionics marine and maybe "what's app" or Finland national broadcast company local streaming program called "yle areena"

Hi.

I have a problem with my xperia L. Device memory gets full with normal usage after a couple of weeks. After it gets full, the phone is almost impossible to use; album doesn't work, new updates will not install, phone resets itself, cannot install new programs.. ETC. The only way out is, in my opinion, to make a "factory reset". But this is not how it should go with a mobile phone..

I am completely sure that this is somekind of a software bug, because my work mate is having exactly same symptoms with his phone and some other users have complained this in this forum with other words. For example:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/140571

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/144006

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/141173

Somebody explained that this is because the album app is somehow broken, other explanation would be that the phone doesn't know how to refresh the temp files...

Now I have some questions for Sony:

1. Do you recognize this problem?

2. How are you going to tackle it and what is the schedule?

3. Also, when tackling this problem, will you repair the camera software too?

Then, I would like to know if there are other users having the same problem.. By the way, the system version is 15.0.A.1.31

I'm experiencing the same problem with the same firmware version. After searching through forums I ended up doing repair installation through PC Companion on last weekend, but unfortunately it didn't help. This is getting really annoying since at this rate I'm probably going to have to do the factory reset ,or repair installation again, in few days...

It would be really nice to get even some kind of confirmation from Sony that they're taking action to fix this fatal problem.

And to be absolutely clear, my apps are only using 557MB of the total 1.57GB of diskspace, while space available is only 451MB. Yesterday I recall having something like 600MB free and I haven't done any new installations.

Hi, I'm using 15.0.A.1.31... I tried this b4, reset / repair several times still the same, the phone space (ROM) disappear everyday... Originally on day 1 after I setup all stuff, it has around 970M free ROM space (apps around 460M), but even I have not installed any more apps, the phone ROM keeps disappearing and left so little that warning message keeps coming out.

After many trials and investigation, I discovered that each time I connect the phone with my PC and unplug, the phone space disappear about 25M space. And I noticed that I am using MSC mode for the USB connection. So, I changed to the MTP mode (from setup -> Xperia -> USB connection), it seems the problem solved. But each time you connect the phone, you have to unlock the phone screen in order to succesfully connect to the PC.

I suspected that it's the MSC driver problem, it may "reserve" around 25M space to serve as "buffer" for transferring data, but forgot / failed to clear after use. I hope the new firmware can solve this problem, but I still have not got the new firmware (still using 15.0.A.1.31, not even 15.0.A.1.36) after nearly 3 months and I'm in Hong Kong (15.0.A.1.36 issued on 4 June as written on the official web site)

Hi!

Thanks for all your replies. None of them does solve the problem for me though 😕 Really dissapointed that Sony isn't giving any answers. Didn't really use USB or Walkman either.

I upgraded my phone to latest version (15.0.A.2.17) and after 5 days my memory was full again. Tried to return the phone, but store wanted to send the phone to service. Now my phone has been two weeks with Sony and haven't really heard anything from them. Maybe I should try to figure out what is going on.

Most likely a last Sony mobile device I will ever buy and at the moment I really suggest everyone to stay away from this phone.

EDIT: added the upgraded version.

Thanks, I'll try this if the problem repeats itself!

I just got the phone back, actually got the info at the same moment I sent my last reply. Seem like they only did Factory reset, which set the version back to the A.31 :/// Even though I told them, factory reset, upgrading or repair installation would work. Maybe they're just trying to get me to buy a different phone.

IPE400, I think this is a moment that NO PM to the admin anymore. Sony has forgot this fatal problem entirely. We don't benefit from a private conversation. I think that the only thing that Sony can do is to take this problem seriously and with all the publicity. At the moment, it seems that SONY doesn't take it seriously. I would like to ask the same questions that are found in the first post:

1. Do you recognize this problem?

2. How are you going to tackle it and what is the schedule?

3. Also, when tackling this problem, will you repair the camera software too?

By the way, my situation is exactly the same as with others in this thread and I know other cases in my country. Also, there are some other "problem threads" that, in my opinion, has the same problem, even if the user doesn't recognize it now...

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-L/Camera-Xperia-L-The-truth/m-p/361770#U361770

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-L/I-am-getting-a-message-as-quot-Storage-Space-Running-out-quot/m-p/360894#U360894

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-L/The-worst-phone-I-have-ever-had/m-p/332262#U332262

I think that this problem is world-wide and wide spread software bug.

Hi!

I have the same problem, and I went to the official service in Madrid. They told me that they had traslated the problem to the company but this was two weeks ago and they don't receive any answer yet. I wrote to Sony through they web page, and they answer me that the device doesn't have any problem. I think that this situation is ridiculous. Being a recognized and big company I can't believe that they are not doing anything. This problem could be fixed easily by they technicians.

I propose to wait a couple of days for a serious response, and if they do not take this problem seriously we should make the corresponding complaint in the consumer protection office in our countries. If they don't fix the problem they should give us a new device that works well or return us the money, because we cannot use this phone.

To be clear, my phone was in the official Sony service. I told them that repair installation, upgrade or factory reset wouldn't do any good. And what they did is a factory reset... and it took 2 weeks to do this. And also I didn't get any confirmation on what they did or would do if (=when) the problem repeats itself. Also I was told that only way to contact service is trough some Internet form... Really, unbelievable.

And also I'm not going to send any info through private messages, Sony had their change to play with my phone in their official service. Tomorrow I'll try to return this phone to the store and if I'm successfull I'll just forget that Sony exist. There is a change that I will have to accept new Xperia L device and repeat the problem with the new unit before I'll get my money back. I'll just have to hope the people at the store are more understanding and let me change the phone right away.

Luckily there are many other Android phone manufacturers. Maybe someone has some good suggestions? Better camera and software would be nice.

Before sending the phone to the official service, I want to hear from Sony that they know what the problem is, and they have the solution. I don´t want to spend two weeks without phone, just for a factory reset that I can do at home, and that also doesn´t solve anything.

Something is wrong with this phone and requires a global solution.

When you reset it seems that everything is ok (photo after a factory reset two days ago😞

But 2 or 3 days after the reset, memory begins to dissapear (today´s foto):

That memory can´t be recovered, neither uninstalling apps nor moving them to the sd. The only solution I've found is to reset again. I usually need to reset once a week.

I'm also thinking of trying to get my money back in the store, but I think they are going to sugest to send the mobile to the official service and that, for the moment, seems not to be the solution.

A small update. My left my phone to the Store. This time the manager said they're not going to send the phone to Sony before they can give clear answer on how they're going to fix it. Now I wasn't the only one who had taken the phone back to the store, so I'm guessing this is going to be a big problem soon for Sony. I'm really hoping that pressure from a big European retailer will get Sony to take action.

Time frame for the response is about a week. So I'll get back to you. Hopefully I get to return this darn phone and get something like Samsung S4 mini instead.

And by the way Sony, you should really pay me, since I'm doing the beta testing and reporting for you...

I've been experiencing the same issues with my Xperia L and have so far had to complete a factory reset 3 times in the 6 weeks since receiving the phone on a Vodafone contract (UK). I'm running on 15.0.A.2.17 and it still shows all of the characteristics mentioned in the above entries. All looks well for a week or two, then the phone starts blocking updates etc... due to lack of space! There seems no way of freeing up any internal memory to correct this. I've tried running apps to clear cache and removed/stopped applications running, but this doesn't sort the issue. I raised the issue with Vodafone and they were no help at all. They suggested I go to a store and them send the phone off. From what's been posted above this would seem pointless, as there is no resolution to this issue coming from Sony. Let's hope they catch on to the issue soon and sort the problem!

In a way it's pointless, but of course it will rise awareness of the problem. But of course you would be the only one to take a hit, so it's up to you if you want to sacrifice for Sonys benefit.

But maybe you should wait untill I get some kind of answer from Sony through my retailer. Sony can't be denying the problem forever, it's already damaging brand of Sony pretty badly. No one of my friends or co-employees is considering to buy Sony after this kind of customer service...

Hello everyone,

I have the same problem as you guys, and i found a solution for this, until now it as been working (1 week ago).

To fix it you must do this

1 - Make the factory reset

2 - After the factory reset the 1st thing to do is:
GO to the apps instaled on the phone, search for the "WALKMAN" app and STOP IT.
Don't use THIS CRAPPY APP again.

This crappy app is somehow stealing the device memory.

(there are better apps in ggStore than you can use eg: Poweramp)

You guys can give me your feedback because is working for me

------------------------------------------------------

For the phone restarting issue i did not find the best solution, but one thing i did was is change the theme to AMBER and then download the dynamic background from ggStore (eg: Solar System HD).

It does not fix it completly but it is helping a lot

------------------------------------------------------

Sony Xperia please fix this crappy bugs of your crappy phone, helping the costumers fixing this bugs with some software update to every countrys

Hi.

We have the similar problem where the Device memory (1,57 GB memory area) fills up in a couple of days.

It's a Xperia L purchased in Sweden with 15.0.A.1.31 Nordic Region firmware.

The temporary solution is to do a factory reset.

We have also tested the suggested soution to disable the inbuilt Walkman app but it didn't help.

Sony support tries to blame 3 party apps but I don't think they cause it because we are using the same apps in a number of other Android devices without any problems. Also, if you look around in the forum, you don't find this problem with other Xperia devices.

Those of you who have upgraded to 15.0.A.2.17, did that change the memory consumption behaviour?

-------

This is a serious problem which many Xperia L users seems to suffer from.

We are getting really of doing these factory resets 2-3 times a week.

Adressing Sony I want them to make a statement in this thread or other public forum regarding this problem:

- Admit there is a problem (memory leak) with Xperia L.

- Inform of planned actions and schedule to solve it.
