Unrooted then upgrade to ICS...

Hi all!

I am contemplating in unrooting my phone so I can use the avast android version in full. However, I am wondering that if the ICS comes, will the phone stay unrooted?

OR, do we have any other app that works like avast yet needs no rooting?

root will not remain after upgrading to ics

there are couple of others options(no root required)

Slim, if you install avast on a rooted phone, in the event of theft, the app can survive a hard reset and continue to work giving out the where about of the phone. That's what the developer says.

It's not so much about the virus guys, the anti-virus feature of avast needs no rooting. I am into the security.

ok... i have avast installed :smileygrin: but did not know of this..

but the FAQ says.. as soon as the sim is changed ( without root ) , a message will be send to 2 pre-selected numbers.... all the details of the new sim inserted..

and try this.

remove your sim card and then turn on your phone.. it will blow the siren...

though i haven't tried switching sims if you do please let me know if that also works..

well this happened accidently , i was not even aware of the app but it works...

sorry , cannot do that i will lose my root , and all the things which i did , removed bloat , custom themes and all.. cant risk it but if the dev says then it must work :smileygrin: hehe....

but its a good feature that you told of which i was unaware of...

but still what do you think..

god forbid if someone's phone is lost , the founder will not think of hard reset but will change the sim card on the spot and bam , all the details to your selected numbers.... i mean here this the first step that any thief will do..

Yes.. Avast survive after a hard reset.. I experienced it. Whenever you install avast! again those features work properly..
