Most of the apps available on the market only work on rooted phones. There are a couple of ways to do it tho, download this software to your PC http://www.fjsoft.at/en/highlight.php, make sure USB debugging is turned on (Settings>Applications>Development) and then connect. The screen shot feature is in Extra's tab in top menu.

The other way is to follow this guide http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/07/21/how-to-take-screenshots-of-your-android-based-phone-from-windows/ which is a little more long winded but works fine too.

I bought an xperia mini (not pro) a month ago. I figured out how to take a screenshot by mistake.

Here's how to do it:

Simply press the power button and the screen at the same time. Then you can choose to 'take a screenshot'.

Yes, you are right. This feature is only available for phone running Android 2.3.4.

with the 2.3.4 update yu can take a screenshot by long-pressing the power button.. cool...
