can anyone recomend a good backup/restore app?

I need to backup my arc before sending off for repair, there is nothing on pc companion to do this and no app on my phone. I would prefer to back up everything including system settings, apps and media. Is there a way i can do this

Make sure you backup everything

Settings -> privacy -> Back up my data and Automatic restore should be selected

How to install it

You need to

go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources

download IO File Manager

download the backup & restore app, transfer it to your SD card, use OI file manager to find it -> tap on it -> install it

Contacts

just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already

open your phonebook

press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email

on your computer

-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import

Apps

Don't worry so much about backing up your apps

on your computer go to

market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone

SMS/MMS

if you don't want to use the backup & restore app then

Install "backup SMS" to back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail

An easier way to install the Backup & Restore app

download the apk on your computer, send it to yourself through email, make sure you send it to your Gmail

now on your phone

go to settings -> applications -> check unknown sources

wait for the email, once you get the email, open it, and instead of downloading the attachment it will allow you to install it, voila, done

thats great thanks, i was flapping a bit when i thought i was going to lose everything. My arc is only getting sent back for a cracked bezel above the light sensor so not sure why they need to wipe my phone anyway. But backup is sorted now, thanks for your help.

probably, but it's bizzarre. I guess side loading is your only option right now

download the app, transfer it to your SD card

Download Apk Manager

I really like "APK manager", no need for OI File Manger (to install apk anymore )

well this app was included in android version 2.3.2 and i loved that... i know its very easy to find all the apk....

file expert also has this feature it can backup apps as well
