Mystery mew messages notification after latest software upgrade

Since I downloaded the latest software version for my Arc a week or so ago, I have been getting a notification when I take my phone out of standby mode i.e. when the slide to unlock screen first appears.

It just reads New Messages: 1 and has an icone next to it like an email.

I have no idea what thsi relates to or how to clear it.

Can anybody shed some light on this please............

its a bug..

check if you have you all the messages and thers no unread message..

also just send a message to your number only send a message to yourself it'll disappear..

I have tried sending both text message and email message to myself with no luck. I have also turned the phone off and back on agai, but the message still remains.

Any further ideas? Should I re-install the software? If so what is the best way about doing this as it wil otherwise say I have the most up to date software, and I am not sure if it otherwise gives me the option to re-install.

well it should solve the problem..

and thats not an email..its just a normal message icon..

before re install can you delete all your messages if you dont have a problem..just to see if that icon comes back again...

if you want your messages..backup your sms with any application on android..

then delete them all and then restore all your messages.. see if it comes back again or not

if its there then you should continu with reinstalling the software..

with this..software will tel you what all to do..

and click on update anyway..ok..

I remembered I actually had the Update Service software on my PC (PC Companions doesn't work - it never detects my phone for some reason).

I have re-installed the software with the Update Service, but I have lost all the Apps I had downloaded from Android Market. Looks like there is also now a problem with the market in regards to being able to detect peoples devices, so unable to download again from the website. I did however manage to download them again using the market application installed on the phone.

My annoying message alert has however now gone afteer the reinstall of the software!

hey i thought you dint want your apps as well

i mean you mentioned only message and contacts..

i hope you dint lost any app data..
