I have tried using a different charger. I have cleaned out the charger port. Here is the problem: sometimes the red charger light is on but the power does not go up. At other times the light seems to flicker very fast. And at other times, the phone stops charging a minute or so after I insert the charger lead (the red light goes off, and the on-screen message about low battery appears). I pull out the charger, reinsert it, get a red light for about a minute, and the problem repeats, again and again. This has been a chronic problem for most of the last 36 hours, and yet at times the phone start charging normally for a while.
