Roll out of the Jelly Bean update for several xperia models was announced months ago.

Still PC companion says i have the latest availeble software. Which is probalby ICS.

From the phone:

Android-versie: 4.0.4.

Build-nummer: 6.1.1.B.1.54

Phone is not BRANDED btw.

Like come on!!! For almost al other phones i see people recieving updates. In another topic i read that someone with a xperia P received his JB update yesterday..

Anyone here who either

- knows when the update does become availeble?? or,

- anyone in the netherlands has already updateded their xperia GO to JB?

I also haven't receieved the JB update on my unbranded Dutch Xperia Go

I tried contacting Sony support through the contact form on the local sony mobile website twice in August about the promised JB update. Still waiting for an anwser.

When I complained by Samsung on my long overdue ICS update for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 I at least got some BS answer.

Guess I can put another company on my do-not-buy-from list

I too have the same issue. I have an unlocked phone purchased from Amazon. Both the phone and PC companion say the software is up to date, however Sony's website says there is an update. Is Sony lazy, or do they not care?

Here is my update on my dealings with sony xperia support

Well yesterday I finally received a reply on message from august 20th from Sony Xperia support, took them only 4!!! weeks. Here is the reply:

The update to Android 4.1 for the Xperia™ Go is available since longer
time. If you can't do the update with your phone i think there is an
operator branding installed. Customer with phones with operator
brandings have to wait a little bit longer because the providers have to
modify it. Please contact your operator for more informations.

It seems JB is released in the Netherlands. However my phone has no operator branding. So asked again to confirm and that there is no mixup. Let's see if they can beat the 4 weeks response time.

In the mean time I contacted Sony Xperia NL on twitter. I got response from @XperiaCareNL. Got asked some questions. However haven't gotten answer/confirmation on whether JB is released in the Netherlands

So this afternoon I opened a chat with Xperia support. He said JB is released in the Netherlands. He said that either my phone is branded or there is some other problem and that I should contact the shop or visit the sony repair center

I then checked my email and with a new record speed of three weeks I got a reply on my message of august 29th (same person btw)

We already started the rollout for Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean". Shortly it will be available for your device too. Please note we can't give an exactly date, this i because the availability depends on different factors like an operator branding.

So does this mean that JB is not yet available in the Netherlands or does this mean that it is not available for branded phones.

So there are 4 possibilities here I think:

JB is out, but the software on my phone is damaged so it won't update

JB is out, but my phone is branded without me knowing it in which case I got screwed by the Mediamarkt

(there was no long delay with the ICS update on my phone, which in case of operator branding might have been the case)

JB is out but got screwed up so that it won't get recognized by our Dutch go's

JB is not out and tech support don't have a clue

So people can you tell whether you were successful updating your phone with a Dutch JB or if not where did you buy your phone in case we all got screwed by the same store for selling operator branded phones as non branded (Mediamarkt in my case)

BTW Does somebody know how to find out if your go is branded and if so by which providder

Nice to see that you put some effort in trying to find the problem.

I have tried to but i get send from sony to the retailer to my operator and they all tell me the same.......

I bought my phone @ wehkamp.nl

As far as i can tell it is unbranded. i have nog logo's or apps from any operator on my phone. That is usually how you can see if your phone is branded (logo on back of phone, operator logo shows when you turn your phone on, you have certain apps on it provided by your operator) I use a sim-only contract so the phone is mine and not provided by a company (bougght it sim lock free at wehkamp.

A long while ago i contacted xperia trough their chat. Had to give my IMEI number and you know what this guy said.!!!

"Your phone is branded by telekom, t-mobile. You have to wait for them to clear the update. Contact them for more information".

So i knew this was complete but what the hack i contacted T-mobile. They told me that if my phone was not bought @ T-mobile and i didnt have a contract with them it was quite impossible that my phone was branded.

So i am out of options really. Nowhere i can go cause i bought my phone online, Sony says its branded so go to your contracter and my contracter says is is not branded so go to sony...........

Only thing that might be in the way, is that my phone is on the network of t-mobile. I have a cheaper sim only contract with some lousy company, but they run on the t mobile network. (Same as Hi operator runs actually on KPN network).

But still, i cant find any evidence that suggests that that should be a problem. It only is when your phone is brandend.

Anyone else having any progresss figuring out the problem?

Well this is messed up....

Just ended a chat session with xperia care.

According to them my phone is BRANDED!!!!!!!!! He told me that this was not te first time retailer's sell phones to be generic (not branded, just with factory software / settings) but turn out te be branded.

Mine is branded my t mobile he says. Dont know how cause nothing seems that way. As i mentioned above, no logo's nog software apps whatsoever.

My build numbes is: 6.1.1.B.1.54

According to the dude on the chat that is a build number not corresponding with generic phones. And somehow he could see that it was branded my T-mobile.

So i think i am gonna burn down wehkamp.nl for selling me a branded phone and next drop a bomb on t mobile for selling branded phones trough a normal retailer.

From what i can see, the latest update to Android 4.1 is not released for generic phones sold in NL. Why this is i can't see but it's probably related to local approvements.

The latest software available for a generic phone sold in NL is 6.1.1.B.1.10 so you actually have a later version. The build number alone doesn't say if you have a branded phone or not but is seems your phone is either branded or imported from another country as you have a later version.

We started the rollout of the androidversion 4.1 for your device many time ago. If you can't do the update we assume that there is an operator branding on your phone installed. Phones with such modified software get the update a little bit later, in this case please contact your operator for more informations.

So was she lying or are you selling BS

Got a tweet from @XperiaCareNL he confirms what Rickard says. The update seems to be stuck in the approval stage. This means that Sony Xperia Support Nederland has it wrong.

It's a real shame that there is no real Dutch tech support, the email and the chat support seems to be based in Germany. They are slow with a response time of up to 4 weeks and they give inadequate and wrong information. Sony should really fix that. If they want to sell phones in the Netherlands they should give it proper support. I for one won't be buying a Sony mobile or tablet in the near future. I give it a litte bit more time, but the best thing for me to do is to dump this phone on a unsuspecting fool and buy a phone with proper support

Sorry to hear that you got wrong information.

If your local support is based in another country this was perhaps the reason for the mistake. The update is released in Germany.

At the moment i can only hope that the update is approved soon for your market.

Where is the approval stage? WHy should that differ from the dutch market. Ca use kinda. Nobody knows where we should go to get the right information. ANd how about branded phones. You say only for generic phones it is stuck in the approval stage.

And how about my own phone? WIth build number ending on 54. You say that that software is not released yet for the dutch market. HOw did it end on my phone then. Cause i could go to a store nearby who said he could erase the branding if there is any on it, and insthall generic software so i would be able to download Jelly Bean. But if jelly bean aint out yet anyway that wouldnt be such a good idea would it?

I think someone somewhere at some desk should real rapidly start pushing some papers cause i;m done waiting.

As this handled at a local level and might differ between different markets i can't see this.

If information about when/if an update will be approved is available, your local Sony Xperia support will have it but that type of information might not be available.

If you send me a PM with the IMEI and SI-number (printed on phones label) i may be able to see why your phone have a different software.

Still not sure if phone is branded or not but shouldnt matter anyway cause from what we can tell so far the update isnt aproved. Really really weird all this.

i had another question, if the Jelly bean update is released (with a big IF) and it isnt up to my standards can i without rooting and all that downgrade the software? Cause Jelly Bean should be very nice but the xperia Go isnt the fastest around, even with ICS on it. Might even wanna try gingerbread to see how smooth it runs on that. Today i had a call and as i swiped to answer the phone froze........ Like, the dude on the other end had alomst hung up before my xperia finally had its sh_it together to make a decent call. Real nice a smarthphone which can do a thousand things but truth be told? Them old nokia''s were pretty reliable and enduring. They did that for what they were build for.

After rickard's message from last thursday I asked questions.nl@support.sonymobile.com for an explanation. Well no suprise there I'm still waiting for an answer from them.

It's time to look for alternatives. The Lenovo S750 looks nice. It's waterproof, replacable battery, faster and no cap needed for the headphone jack. I haven't found a good review yet. It can be bought in the NL for 240€ and directly in China for around €180 Look here for the Dutch shop http://www.loveandroid.nl/s750.html. It's released only in China, so you have to do without support, but I guess I'm used to that be now

One thing is for sure I'm never gonna buy a sony mobile again and I think I will forget about getting a PS4 for Sinterklaas or Christmas.
