I had a similar issue before. I could not access the call while calling. But this was resolved by a recent firmware update.

In your case it could also be that it works as it should. It is designed to go to black when you are lifting the phone to your ear. This is to keep the batery consumptiion as low as possible, making it less warm to your skin. Another reason is that it should not register any input because that you are pressing your cheek onto the display.

So if you are not lifting your phone and still have this problem is could be that you are holding your hand in front of the sensor. When I was experimenting whit this I saw that the sensor is sitting in the top part of the phone.

Dear FilipS

I bought new Z ultra 10 days ago, the problem of black screen while calling started today, 10 days of usage.

It is not because the phone's sensor is close to something, like the speaker's ear or fingers. It is always happening, with both dialing and receiving calls.
I understood from your post that there is a firmware update to solve this problem. Can you advice us who did this update for your phone? Is it the dealer or you did by yourself? and how is that supposed to be done?

Thanx

I suggest that you try using the handset in Safemode, if the screen works without any issue whilst in this mode then it is related to a third party application.

To get the handset in to safemode do the following.

1. Turn the handset off

2. Turn the handset on

3. When the splash screen pops up, hold the down volume key until the handset is turned on.

You will see safemode on the screen, from here try making a call and test the device.

Also make sure that you remove any screen protector or cover and then test the device first.
