Unable to add contact in Gmail app

I prefer to use the Gmail app for my email accounts. Unfortunately, the only email account I can add contacts to (using the default contacts app) is my Gmail account. I also have added my corporate and outlook account to Gmail, and the contacts sync perfectly. But the only option I get when creating contacts is Locally or Gmail. (see screenshot)

Thanks for swift reply. Unfortunately, the problem is not syncing contacts with the Gmail account. It's syncing to other email accounts added to the Gmail app. Like my corporate account. I have no problems adding contacts to the Gmail account through the Gmail app.

@Gorguss So discussed with someone and it seems this is something google has to know about, as it's their app.

Or that email account you need to add via account not via gmail then you might option to sync with that account.

Corporate account is mostly exchange servers. So add them like that. And then try.

Thank you for your reply ashishsingh007. What you suggests is the same as not using Gmail app for other email accounts, and of course that works. It does not solve the issue with email accounts added to the Gmail app only however. Problem still persists.

Then I don't think that's a problem. You added an account to an app so the other apps don't know that account and its not at system level so this behaviour is normal as in android every app runs in its sanboxed area.

If that's the case with the Gmail app, why can I still add calendar events to my corporate (exchange) account that is only added through the Gmail app?

Problem still persists, and is limited to Contacts (or People on Nexus)

I have two problems with Contacts:

I have added my work account details (Exchange Office 365) and this brings in mail and calendar appointments, but not contacts. Sync looks like it has worked, but the contacts do not show. Interestingly, if a contact that is in my Exchange contacts calls me, their name shows up in the notification, but i cannot get at their details in the Contacts app
When creating a contact on the phone, I cannot create it in my MS Exchange account, only options given are local or gmail - not particuarly useful

Any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Having migrated from a stock Nexus 4 it seems a large backward step to be unable to add contacts for my Exchange account. Can I download the stock Android Contacts app instead of the less good Sony one?
