Pictures on SD cards corrupted

Hello,

i have a very strange issue with my SD-Cards. Every picture on it appears only half rendered, or with yellow, grey, green wrong rendered pictures. It has no dependence on my picture viewer (Fstop). Pictures which i send on whatsapp are also grey, or half rendered. I only have the possibility to use the internal storage as memory.

I tried several SD-Cards, my last was a Samsung Pro Series, the first one a Sandisk Ultra. The issue still exist.

So what could be wrong here?

Try taking a photo in safe mode,
Does the same issue occur?

Yes, it does not depend on the camera.

Copied JPGs from my RX100 III have the same issues. Every picture on the SD-Card appears buggy, even thumbnails.

Hmm, it does sound strange.
You can try factory resetting it in Xperia companion, back up first.
If you still have this issue it may be a case of contacting your local support or exchanging the unit at the store you purchased from.

Hi @Sze, I'm sorry to hear this.

Since you have already tested different SD cards I would suggest that you perform a software repair using Xperia Companion, as @Viridis already suggested. If that doesn't help you should contact your Local support team for more information on how you can proceed with this.

Okay, i will try it that way.

I also benchmarked the Sandisk Ultra with A1 SD Bench.

z5 Compact:

Read: 41 MB/s

Write: 18 MB/s

Xperia XZ:

Read: 10MB/s

Write: 18MB/s

Something seems to be wrong here.

is your issue resolved? we have the same problem. no issue with photos being saved using the internal memory. some photos saved in my memory card appear distorted/buggy. embarrassing to be distorted/buggy images sending photos to friends via facebook messenger/whatsapp/wechat.

Hey arvin

I cant tell you something about my results yet, because i ran yesterday into a google security feature. Yesterday i changed my google password and my login method into 2 factor auth. I did not know that i should not wipe a device within the next 72h.

Of course i did it (Sony Software Repair)

The initial phone setup process requires, after a factory reset, a google account which was used before. Its impossible to skip the google login procedure, so i have to wait till sunday.

But beside the picture issue, my sd-card was very slow. I used to store my osmand (offline navigation) maps on the SD-Card, and the performance of the map rendering was very poor. My z5 compact was a way more faster.

Ah! My google security issue is over now!

Okay, i am logged now into my device.

The benchmark for my Samsung PRO Sd-Card:

Read: 30MB/s

Write: 27MB/s

I downloaded Fstop (with this picture viewer i had a lot of corrupted files) and.......it works........not (see below)

Sure. I need more time for testing, especially with an complete encrypted phone..

I will keep you informed.

I encrypted my SD-Card.

The results from A1 SD Bench:

Read: 15 MB/s

Write: 20.75 MB/s

And again, the JPGs are corrupt.

i excluded media files from encryption:

Read: 19 MB/s

Write: 18 MB/s

-> Also corrupted JPGs

Disable ecryption:

Read: 29 MB/S

Write: 27 MB/s

-> Also corrupted JPGs

I think i dont need to test anymore The software-repair has not solved this issue.

Do you suggest that i dont have to do software repair for my phone anymore? All photos/videos am taking now are saved in my Internal Memory and no complaints. I think it really has something to do with the software Sony has for the memory card. Disappointing.

in my case the factory reset did not work. So i dont think that you can solve this issue that way. Interesting that many people seem to have he same problems with sd cards.

Of course you can store your pics on the internal memory....but since my z1 compact i always used the SD Card for offline navigation, pictures and mp3. I neved had problems with it....... But my first premium smartphone for 700€ is not able to handle the SD-Card? I cannot accept this

Keep in mind that the SD-Card performance is in general very low. My first postings included a benchmark from my z5 compact. The read performance of my Sandisk Ultra is higher, than the read performance of my XZ with a Samsung PRO SD-card.

I will try another XZ, if there are the same problems, i see no reason to switch from my z5 compact.

nope.

Sony send me today a mail without further description of the issue and the solution. They just informed me that i will recieve my old device back within the next days.

I contacted the support in the chat, to ask them about the solution and to get some informations about the issue.

The answer was like this:

"oh sorry, we could not find the error, check your SD-Memory for corrupted files"

.........

no words yet. Obviously they dont take it toooo serious. So maybe i had to attach some photos? Tsss

Its completly random, i can swipe forward and again backward, tadaaa the picture shows correctly, but the next one will 100% shown as corrupt.
