Incoming call isue

As of yesterday, when I receive a call I don't get the usual split screen with option to swipe right to answer or reply with a message etc. The screen stays black and I have to press the power button on the right to waken the phone then just option to answer or dismiss. Also if i go to phone settings>Apps & Notifications>Apps info>, i click on the phone app & app Notifications,the bottom area listed under Catergories is greyed out & at the bottom it says 6 catergories deleted with an 'i'in a circle.

Tech guy a Vodafone shop says it needs flashing which they can do in shop.

Are there any other options available please?

Forgot to say, when the phone rings with the black screen, i press power button to reveal the callers name, the sound of the ringtone stops but it carries on dialing until i accept or decline.

It seems to be a problem with the pre-installed phone app, is there a way of updating or fixing etc

Would the Sony Xperia companion help although doing this may invalidate my vodafone warranty.

Update

If I go to settings>Apps info>Apps>phone app> storage then I delete cache and data the issue resolves itself for a while then starts again after a few calls.

Mmm, could be another app interfering.

Try safe mode and see if it happens there too.

Yes I've tried safe mode.

Under app settings>notifications >, should the incoming calls importance be set to urgent (make noise and pop on screen) in order to see incoming calls screen?.. High importance being just sound!!?

In the incoming call >call urgency, what is pop on screen? Is it the call screen the 'pop on screen' because the other options are just sound.
