Cinema pro and gimbals.

after playing with the app, it's pretty decent, but i'd like it to be updated to work with gimbals, as also using filmic pro, which is really powerful, but is a little overwhelming, so cinema pro isn't as powerful, but the 21:9 is decent, without resizing, and generally i'd like to use the wheels on my smooth 4 to follow focus and adjust the ISO and shutter speed on the fly, i know it'd take both sony, and the gimbal manufacturer to work together for it to work, but it'd just take it to another level, also please give 21:9 and 24fps in the default camera app.

I feel your pain with this one, I just ordered a smooth 4 after selling my osmo mobile last year and aim to use it with cinema pro, the addition of the wheels being compatible would make Xperia 1 a VERY, VERY capable device for would be gimbal using cinematographers.

We can always hope...

Let me forward this idea and see if I can get any info.

This would be interesting and I second this idea.

I would use Filmic Pro with a gimbal (still to buy one) but it does not support 21:9 aspect ratio filming. So that only leaves Cinema Pro for 21:9 films but no direct gimbal support, arrrg

So I spoke with the guys at filmic pro. They are gonna look at putting 10bit recording on their development roadmap. Not sure about 21:9 - But in any case. the 21:9 on cinema pro is simply a crop of the sensor, which could be done in a post process. I guess many want the convienence.

The game seems to be about restricting users to basic features. After all - 4k 10bit recording is really very high quality and offers a lot of ability for creativity, and I can see that the might worry about people not bothering with spending 10s of thousands on a pro device and all the glass that is needed with it. But it seems obvious that those of us who are making low budget but higly creative content, wouldn't spend that money anyway.

Getting gimble support would be great. I think it most likely to come from a third party app. But I am a plus 1 for sony adding support.

Filmic actually does different aspect ratios, but no 21:9.

So it would make sense to add it then bud.

Sure, yeah. Sounds good. I guess I was badly indicating my own priorities, nothing more. I prefer to have all of the sensor captured and then sort it all out in post.

Thats the biggest frustration with the standard camera app. It is giving full sensor 10bit video, but there is no refined control (focus, iso etc).

So far, filmic is also giving most of the features that I want, but not the full color gamut of the stacked sensors.

I havn't asked the filmicpro people about the 21:9 format. So it may not be on their radar yet. Might be worth giving their support a ping. I will mention it, next time I catch up with them.

I did ask Filmic Pro about 21.9 support and they said that once they had an Xperia 1 to test and fully debug, they'd take a run at supporting the wide screen if it proves a viable pursuit, so we can only hope!

Regarding gimbal support for the Smooth 4, that's down to Zhiyun working with Sony to make the Smooth 4's functions compatible with Cinema Pro. I've used my Smooth 4 with my Xperia 1 without any real hardship to not being able to use the focus wheel, although it would be nice.

Speaking of which S, saw a Smooth 4 going second hand on fleabay, sometimes fleabayers can be stupid as it went for £79 plus postage.

Can get them new for that.

In regards of using the cinema pro more, I've found that the shutter speed in daylight is higher than the 180 rule of 2x frame rate, this is obviously fixed with ND filters on usual cameras and video recorders but with the phones, we have to increase shutter speed to counter blown highlights.

Myself (and I wouldn't recommend doing so) I've trimmed a 52mm screw thread to 2mm wide and bonded it to the back of my case. Now I can add 52mm filters whilst using my gimbal.

Nice work! That's given me an idea. I have a friend who can do 3d printing. A case with a 52mm hole would be a nice accessory.

Great minds think alike! I've done something very similar. I purchased from Amazon a cheap phone case and a 55mm-52mm step down ring. I then CNC cut a plastic ring which I stuck to the case with VHB tape. The hole in the plastic ring was cut so that the 55mm thread fit tighltly and would not come loose. I can now easily attach and remove my 52mm variable ND filter.

Not gonna lie, that's where I got mine from, and probably the same seller.

From what I can see, mines a factory refurbished one, and yeah, nothing wrong with it at all.

Oh wow, that's a really cool solution! What Zhiyun model are you using and do you use the native camera, Cinema Pro or ZY Play by Zhiyun?

I've been in contact with Zhiyun and they said that the Xperia 1 wont work with any of their gimbals so I'm wondering how you make it work If the Zhiyun won't work with my Xperia 1 I'm not sure what other gimbal to try...
