Auto mode does use HDR for stuff like sunsets.

Also, that 1/2 second manual exposure would look pretty much the same with HDR off, it was just a longer exposure than the auto mode one.

thanks for your answer, i tried to take a picture with the settings of this youtuber and the result is definitely better than the automatic mode.

Certainly the automatic mode has photos with real colors but sony should have done the real colors mode as an option and the photos treated as photos by default.

For sunsets.

Once lined up, wait a few seconds for the HDR to fully kick in.

Though saying that, any camera will give better results when using manual mode.
