Micro HiFi system CMT-CP11

I have owned the above system since March 2001, and it has served me perfectly well for all these years. I have used all the facilities of the system, and have played my music collection on my iPod using the audio output sockets on the rear of the system into the headphone jack socket on the iPod. I would now like to play music collections from my iPhone and iPad through the speakers, using the same method - but it doesn't seem to work, and no sound comes out of the HiFi speakers. What am I doing wrong? Is it a compatibility problem? I'm not that technically savvy, but any help would be welcome! Thank you. Stay safe, Robin.

It’s quite an old one: iPhone 5S. Likewise my iPad: 2. I suspect there are compatibility issues with these and the Sony kit. Robin

I checked the Manual once more and I found that it isn't possible to play music from external devices.

So how come I can play my iPod through it with no problem? I press the MD button and my iPod music comes through the Sony speakers. So why doesn’t that also work with iPhone or iPad? Advice please! Thank you, Robin Moore
