Just about to buy an HS20V when I noticed what looks like the indentical camera on sale in PC World and Currys called the HS20BB. Anyone know the spec differences?

Hello Jephsha - Welcome to the Sony Forums

The letters after the camera name usually denote the intended market region of the product. Therefore, it is highly likely that the spec is exactly the same - it is just the product code that is different.

Thanks for the info. Seems odd though that Curry and PC World are selling a HSC20BB wheras all the rest are selling an HX20V. However as the V version is the cheapest via Amazon will go down that route. Jephsha

It is part of the pcworld/currys list price / price matching scam.

they insist major suppliers like Sony, Panasonic etc change the model number of the product by 1 digit or 2, this allows them to offer price matching ( and over inflated list prices) against a product, the problem is the model is unique to them so price matching isn't available and they cannot be fined for inflating the list price.

I noticed this with my Panasonic TV a couple of years ago.

This also allows them to prey on the stupid who really think it's a bargain as the list price they set is now £399 against £249 in the real world.

£249 being Sony online, says it all really.
