The appearance of the screen would seem to indicate sub-strata damage i.e. damage to the screen which has fractured the thin glass -ink layer beneath the top surface.

This can be due due to impact on the screen, or, more likely, twisting force - like the unit dropping onto a hardish surface on one of the corners, or an elbow on the back in bed/on sofa ! A hearty dog-paw has been known to do the trick......

And this applies to all ereaders that use e-ink, (e.g. kindle, Kobo, Bookeen, etc...) not just Sony.

And yes, a lot of people may be thinking "I dropped mine 6ft onto the pavement, and it was perfectly OK" or similar.

Well, you were simply lucky ! It could happen a few times, but on the 5th occasion you could be unlucky - or it might be the first time. Lady luck, I'm afraid.

The only answer is to have the screen replaced - but as this will probably cost the price of a "reduced" T1 - which is a great piece of kit - it would seem a bit pointless. We don't seem to get refurb's in the UK , so that's out.

The 600 generation is still available I believe, but you'll have to hunt - ebay probably, but "caveat emptor" - let the buyer beware. Be very cautious anyway !

And should you wish to claim under the Sale of Goods Act, don't forget your contract is with the seller - not Sony - and they are who you should contact, and whatever they say, that's the law - they are liable, if the unit's faulty/not as described/not fit for purpose.

But at 15 months, you'd be on a sticky wicket - which, to be honest, you are anyway due to the type of damage.

Sorry......

Im afraid to say but your screen is broken. No amount of resets or new cables will fix it.

The only thing is get it fixed by Sony or buy a new reader.

thank you for taking the time to both read and look at my photo of the e reader I have not droped or damaged the reader in anyway that is a fact Im sure about . But .. when I brought the reader it was slightly reduced and marked as cosmeticly marked.

I guess this was the reason .. something that I could not see . Id advise others to not buy one described as this was. Hard lesson to learn

but once again thanks to both carpetmojo and sehuxie for your replys .

Yup. "cosmetically marked" is a bit of a flag really - if it's marked on the body, it has suffered some "truama", if you can say that about an inanimate object ! Very very careful examination might have revealed a tiny speck on the screen which could have been a result of this - and it's now gorn kapuut......

Steer clear of anything with this technology that has evidence of mistreatment, basically.

Only go for it if you're prepared to gamble !
