Can anyone help? Guide button not responding - no programme guide and D - - - is on the display.

I have a Sony DVD recorder RDR-HXD870 and the guide button response is 'not available now' -therefore no progamme info and no recording possible. ( Am able to access recorded programmes on AV though.) When guide button is used the display says D - - -. Very grateful for any input.

Hi Sallyann,

the D--- on display is a known problem of the RDR HXD series appeared in Italy after the digital switch-off. For some reason it was not able to keep in memory all the DTV services and loose all of them (apart from the problem in the Guide you should not be able anymore to access any digital channel).

The problem is solved by firmware release 1.70 that you can find in the support section http://support.sony-europe.com/tvhc/downloads/downloads.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&f=FW_DVDR_1.70&m=RDR-HXD870. Be aware that, at the end of the procedure, you should also reset the recorder, unplug it from the power cord, wait one minute than go through the whole initialization process. You'll loose all the setting and timer (including Guideplus data if any, but, by the way, the service is not available anymore for this machine) but you still keep all the HDD content.

This has been happening to me on my RDR DC200 ever since I bought it - and still does even after the patch. Am so depressed with this dreadful machine.
