SONY Xperia 5 ii - 1 NEW UNREAD MESSAGE ICON WON'T GO AWAY

Hi Everyone,

For the past week, I've been having "1" NEW UNREAD MESSAGE indicated on the SMS/Message Icon App, that won't go away.

I've checked everywhere, I've got no new unread message. I restarted phone, marked all messages "as read" in the Messaging App, but nothing seems to clear this "1" new unread message on the SMS/Message Icon App...

FYI: I tried replying to an existing message thread, typing words in and then deleting it, this doesn't work. I also tried changing my default messaging app to Signal, then re-enabling default SMS App to "Message", this didn't work either.

Can anyone help please providing a verified working solution?

Many thanks!

@MarlonUk1 ,

Hi again!

This doesn't work.

Suggested solution that works: Settings > Apps > Messages App > 3-dots Top Right corner of the screen > Uninstall Updates > Restart Phone.

Then reinstall updates via GooglePlay Store to update the Messages App.

This worked for me, and I trust it will for everyone else who's facing this issue !

Hello @ChamBoy74

can you try to tap on the home screen
tap home settings
tap notifcation dots

try to turn it on and off,

restart your device

also try if you multiple messages, try to scroll down, and check to make sure everything has been read,

Hi Nolramlb!

Thanks for your message.

Unfortunately, suggested solution does not work at all.

As previously mentioned, I did ensure marking all my SMS Messages/What'sApp Messages as "read". I'm sure I've got no unread messages.

This topic's also been raised with Android Google Messages support, but they're saying this is a SONY Xperia Phone related issue... I completely doubt it!

So far, no solution found elsewhere on the web.

Regards.

Hi Soso_M4,

Honestly, this is as far as I can go.

Sorry to hear it's not working for you.

Force Stop "Messages" Android App, clear cache, uninstall it, then restart your phone, finally go back to GooglePlay Store to re-install "Messages" App. It should work.

You can always try Google Apps Help/Support Forums.

Perhaps have you missed a step in the suggested solution?

Hope you'll succeed.

Bye for now.

This does not work as you can't uninstall the SMS messaging app
