2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

@danielbeyzade I received the same email as @paudanie8

The reply came from cro dot EN at eu dot sony dot com, the email address that I sent my complaint to.

OK thanks. I would be very dissapointed if I do not get a call from Kimberly today so I will make sure she is receiving all of these messages and we get one "official" response to everyone

That CRO email is the one I was using to get my original purchase refunded.

Just a reminder to anyone sending the email to PM me for my email so I can be copied. This is so we can keep track of the number of users with this complaint

Had the 55X8509CBU for just over a week, woke up today and the TV had crashed, so it restarted itself.

Now iplayer/itv/c4/youview have dissapeared from the apps.

Any idea on how to get them back?

****EDIT:

Fixed. Had to re-do the youview setup..never knew owning a TV could be such hard work..welcome to the future

 Hi,

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you really have two hopes of getting a full refund out of Currys .....

I have been demanding this under the sale of goods act "item not as described" since the beginning of September. Currys legal department will not admit any liability which i find atrocious.

My only saving grace is that i bought my Sony KD-49X8309C with a credit card back in July and am protected under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

My credit card company contacted me this morning to say THEY agree i have been mis sold and have refunded me in full plus interest. They will arrange collection of my TV next week ( not sure what they will do with it though ?! )

It's a bit of a bitter sweet pill for me as it seems that Currys have got off scott free but at least i am rid of this shocking half built TV once and for all.

am considering buying a PANASONIC VIERA TX-50CX802B as a replacement as this seems to do all that is advertised , although will buy with credit card and from John Lewis for extra peace of mind ......

If you do somehow have any joy with Currys please let me know as i would love to forward this information onto my credit card company so they can go chase Currys for their money.

Hi,

I have have just returned my Sony Barvia KD49 inch back to Currys. I was lucky as it was still in the 14 day/21 day cooling off period.

I also managed to return the soundbar and wall bracket.

I was told by the manager to ring Currys support - 0344 561 0000

and get a RA number - once you have that you xan return the telly.

BTW - I bought the Panasonic 700b 50 inch, no isssues so far...

Hope that helps. Good Luck.

Glad you got it sorted.  Still not sure if I'll keep the current Sony (bought from JL) or replace it with a Samsung or Panasonic.  Shame there's no plex app for the Panasonic though

How long have we got to return the TV?  I've had mine for a month.

Can't say it want to return it to the dealer. They are hundreds of miles from me.  Can't I return direct to Sony?
