KD-55A85 hdmi devices have a gradual sound delay

I recently bought a brand new the KD-55A85 just over a month ago. I also have Sky Q UHD installed and plugged into the tv via HDMI. The only other device I have plugged in is a 3rd generation Apple TV via HDMI also. I do not have any sound bar or sound devices connected.

The issue I am having is with sound delay which creeps in to the video within 5-10 minutes of watching the tv. The sound and video was perfectly fine in the morning when I came back to put the tv on in the afternoon, after a few minutes of watching the tv I started realising the sound was delayed from the video. As time went on it got worse and worse. If I restart the TV or the Sky Q box then it’s ok to begin with and then slowly the sound starts to delay again. This is the case on both the Sky Q box and the Apple TV. However, if I watch something via the Android TV apps then the sound is perfectly fine.

I have adjusted the sound settings and HDMI sound output on the Sky Q box settings, and also adjusted the sound settings on the TV as well, but have not been successful with fixing the sound delay. I have also changed my HDMI cables and that also has not resolved the issue. I connected the Sky mini box to the TV and that also produced the sound delay.

Could someone please provide some potential solutions or a fix. I have got a Sky engineer coming out to check the Sky connections, box and dish but I have this nagging feeling the issue is with the tv and specifically the HDMI connections.

Thanks.

Hi sschana88,

Can you please check if the software of your TV is up-to-date?

I have the very same audio issue with my Sony TV KD-49XH9505 & cable TV receiver Kaon KCF-SA700 (from UPC/Liberty Global Int) connected via HDMI. My TV firmware is current - v6.4774. I have tried to connect the receiver to other TV device and audio was fine. Seems like there are occasional minor errors in the HDMI audio stream and my new Sony TV doesn't recover from it. I have tried soft reset, forcing A/V Sync (Display &SoundAudio outputA/V syncOn) with no luck. Any ideas how to solve the issue?

Had exactly the same problem last Friday. My TV is a KD-48A9. I haven't been able to solve this issue but have applied a short term fix by connecting the soundbase to my Sky Q 2Tb box by Toslink cable.

Just wondering if you have had any luck resolving this issue.

Similar issues here on my XH81, also running v6.4774.

Suggest these this thread is merged with this one, or vice versa.

Try enabling HDMI Enhanced format on the TV:

Settings - External inputs - HDMI signal format - Enhanced format

I have already tried 'HDMI signal format - Enhanced format', but it didn't help. If I turn it on, audio gets completely lost.

First, I have tried to attach my laptop to the TV via the same HDMI cable, there was no issue with sound delay. I have tried both PCM and Bitstream (Dolby Digital AC-3) audio formats, both were ok.

Then I have tried a brand new HDMI 2.1 cable and re-attached coax cable to the socket and receiver. I'm watching the cable TV for 1 hour with no audio delay.. I will keep you updated.

Not sure what is/was the root cause. Seems like the receiver outputs audio in bitstream format (there is no menu option in the cable receiver box to change HDMI audio format) and the Sony TV is over-sensitive to stream errors, therefoe sound gets delayed/little corrupted. My old TV doesn't suffer from this.

Hi

What I've heard about this is that Sony is investigating the issue and recommends unplugging the TV from the mains for a minute to refresh the system.

Do you seem to notice the issue only on Game mode? I've read a post by a user who noticed that so I'm wondering if any of you guys are having the same situation?

Hi all

Exactly the same problem with a KD-55XH9505 (2 months old). Problem started last Friday 9th Oct.

Switched cables, reported fault to Set-top Box provider assuming it was issue with their Box. Spent all weekend searching set top provider forums and local Boards.

After some trouble shooting, saw same problem appear with PS4 (normally use headset connected to controller so issue wasn't immediately seen until trying the PS4 on speaker output). Issue has been seen all HDMI devices connected. Found this forum and same issue!

Issue only occurs after 10 mins on the selected HDMI port and then lag occurs between picture and sound then crackling starts to appear and gets progressively worse.

Will speak to reseller tomorrow to get resolution or at least update from Sony.

Tried the suggested unplug from mains but issue occurs again every 10 minutes.

Assume a software fault as we all seem to get the issue last Friday so hoping it can be resolved via a patch as well.

Thanks all for posting as this issue was very frustrating as immediate thoughts pointed to set top box.

Appreciate any other updates or solutions.

Will update if I have further info.
