RX10 3 Playback Zoom

Have just bought an RX10 3 and am still learning its capabilities.

I have noticed one annoying fault though: when I play back a still image on the camera's screen and zoom in, it is not a gradual zoom, it jumps to a highly magnified view of the centre of the image. I cannot get it to zoom in gradually.

Is this a standard feature? or a fault?

Does anyone else have this issue?

Thank you in advance for any help on this issue.

John

Hi johnbrentnall,

I don't think this is normal with the camera. Could you show us a video showing the zoom in/out to clarify this?

Cheers,

It is normal, same goes for my a57 camera.

If you click the button again, you get a more zoomed out view and if you press it a third time, you zoom out even more.

If I recall correctly the first level is 200% zoom, the second is 150% and the third level is 125% zoom.

The feature is meant to check your images for sharpness and you can navigate around to other image parts with the dpad on the camera.

If you want smooth zoom, you need to open it up in the photo editing program of your choice, even though most of them zoom to pre-set levels of zoom as well.

Hi,

I’ve been searching the online guide and I think that the operation of the camera in playback mode, while unusual, is correct.
This is what I found on the guide:-

Display the image you want to enlarge, and slide the W/T (zoom) lever to the T side.
Slide the W/T (zoom) lever to the W side to adjust the zoom scale.
The view will zoom in on the part of the image where the camera focused during shooting. If the focus location information cannot be obtained, the camera will zoom in on the center of the image.

This implies that the image will zoom to the part of the image focused on, (which is what I am getting) and to get another zoom scale you have to zoom out.
This is the first Sony camera I’ve had after several Canons and an Olympus where the zoom function was different. I guess Sony do things differently.

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. Much appreciated.
