HT-X8500 ATMOS LED

I have an HT-X8500 with a Now TV box directly connected via HDMI, then out to the TV. Also have SPDIF connected in from the TV for other audio as ours TV is a  pre-ARC model.

The Now TV box setup says that it does DTS+ [EDIT: DD+ ... typo!], and claims that movies are in ATMOS but the ATMOS LED never lights on the soundbar for any content I put through it.

1) Should it light up when ATMOS is being processed?

2) Is it automatic for ATMOS content, or do I have to somehow explicitly tell the soundbar that it should be using the ATMOS data?

Cheers!

Atmos is Dolby and is conveyed by Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD, if you watch the contents with Audio DTS then you will not have Atmos.

Ah. My bad. I typed DTS+ when I meant DD+.

Hey there,

Sadly, it seems that this is happening due to your connection map, as it seems that you have some kind of an adapter between the devices.
As the sound bar must be connected directly through HDMI eARC, not just ARC.
Check page 17, and 39: https://bit.ly/3hDihlf.

Hope it helps.

My source device is DIRECTLY CONNECTED to the sound bar via the HDMI INPUT socket. I am not using any form of ARC as my TV does not support it.

To get sound from my device, the sound bar has HDMI selected as the INPUT source. Page 39 says that ALL OF THE AUDIO FORMATS are supported via the input HDMI connector (NOT via the TV connector).

I am certain that the content I am watching is listed as having ATMOS, the source device detects that the destionation can support DD+ and DTS, I have manually set the source to output DD+ but the ATMOS LED never lights up.

Again, my question is .... should the ATMOS LED light up on the sound bar when it detects an active ATMOS source or not? If it SHOULD light up, do I have to EXPLICITLY TELL the sound bar that the source is ATMOS or will it autodetect it? This is not related to ARC or eARC or anything like that - the source is DIRECTLY CONNECTED to the soundbar.

Hey there,

If you take a closer look in the specifications, under ''Audio Formats'', there's 2 sections.
HDMI, and HDMI eARC, where it's clearly stating that it's only supported on HDMI eARC, and not just HDMI: https://bit.ly/3kqieu8.

Hope it helps.
