Sony VPL-VW590ES, Toshiba 1080p HDMI Splitter Issue

I have the 590ES 4K projector and 1080p TV fed by a Marantz NR1711 AV receiver, output up to 8K but only 1 HDMI OUTPUT. Manual plugging/unplugging to watch either display.  So I reckoned I needed 4K pass through and downscaler to 1080p so that I can watch the PJ or TV.

I have just received a Wyrestorm Essential 4K HDR 4:4:4 60HZ HDMI 1X2 Splitter WITH 1080P Scaling WYR-EXP-SP-0102-H2.  Easy to install, plug and play. Both pictures are fine.

But a major snag. And unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a proper Wyrestorm manual with trouble shooting, just the 2 page spec sheet/basic instructions.

Anyway, I found that the TV wouldn't display a picture or play sound. A little investigation revealed that with both Sony projector and TV connected to box and both powered off, not even in standby, as soon as the 5v was supplied to the W box, the indicator light for just the PJ came on. TV indicator light remained out.  Didn't matter which HDMI out socket the devices were plugged into. TV indicator only comes on when TV is switched on.

So, the box appears to be switching to the PJ, preventing the TV displaying. If I unplug the PJ, the TV comes on.

I think it may be to do with the Sony PJ HDMI CEC?? But nothing on that in the Sony manual?? In comparison, I can turn off CEC in a Gigablue satellite receiver.
