I believe I have found an Auto Standby bug on the TA-AN1000 which started after updating the amplifier to firmware 1.491.
My setup is:
- Sony TA-AN1000, firmware 1.491
- Samsung S95D TV
- Connected via HDMI ARC/eARC
- Control for HDMI: On
- Standby Linked to TV: On
- Auto Standby: On
Problem
Since installing firmware 1.491, if I pause Netflix or otherwise stop the audio coming from the TV, the TA-AN1000 automatically goes into standby after approximately 10 seconds.
The amplifier can be actively playing audio immediately beforehand.
I have been able to reproduce this consistently. For example:
1. Start a Netflix programme and play it normally for approximately 4 minutes.
2. Pause the programme.
3. Audio stops.
4. Approximately 10 seconds later, the TA-AN1000 enters standby.
On another occasion, just before it switched off, the TA-AN1000 displayed an “Auto Standby” countdown on screen.
Troubleshooting performed
I have tested the following:
Standby Linked to TV = Off:
Problem still occurs.
Control for HDMI = Off + Standby Linked to TV = Off:
Problem still occurs.
Auto Standby = Off:
Problem completely disappears. The amplifier remains powered on when Netflix is paused and there is no audio.
I can then re-enable both Control for HDMI and Standby Linked to TV, while leaving only Auto Standby = Off, and the problem remains completely resolved.
I also tested playing a programme continuously for more than 20 minutes before pausing. The amplifier again entered standby approximately 10 seconds after pausing.
I then performed a shorter test, playing for only approximately 4 minutes before pausing. It still entered standby approximately 10 seconds later.
This therefore does not appear to be the normal approximately 20-minute Auto Standby timeout.
Firmware
The TA-AN1000 is running:
Software version: 1.491
I did not experience this behaviour before updating to firmware 1.491. The problem only started after the firmware update.
Based on the testing above, this appears to be a regression in the Auto Standby behaviour introduced by firmware 1.491. Disabling Auto Standby is currently an effective workaround.
Could other TA-AN1000 owners running firmware 1.491 please test this?
Simply enable Auto Standby, play TV audio over ARC/eARC for a few minutes, then pause playback and see whether the receiver enters standby approximately 10 seconds later.
It would also be useful if Sony could investigate whether firmware 1.491 has introduced an issue with Auto Standby when an ARC/eARC audio stream stops.
