Microphone problems

I have microphone problems. My mobile is 2, 5 years old and when I am calling the other participant (another person) can't hear me. I hope you understand my English since it isn't my mother tongue. Thanks for your help. Winking_Face

Hi @Yvonne301,

I'm sorry to hear about that. Slightly_frowning_Face

I can see that you have an Xperia M4 Aqua registered on your account, is that the phone you are experiencing that the microphone isn't working correctly in? Or do you have an Xperia Ion as well?

If your current phone is an Xperia M4 Aqua I would recommend that you test the microphone when you are outside of a call to see if it's working. You can do that in the inbuilt test in the phone which you can find in Settings > About phone > Diagnostics > Test > Microphone.

If the microphone is working in the test, I would recommend that you change the preferred network type in your phone and make a few calls to see if the counterpart is able to hear you. To change network type go to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Preferred network type > Only GSM.

Was there any change while the phone was rebooted in safe mode that @uliwooly recommended?

@Yvonne301

Your phone it's two and a half years old and whenever you make a call the other person can't hear you?

Are you making regular calls or through an app?

Could you boot in >>> safe mode and check again ?

Dear Jonas,
thanks a lot for your help. I can't describe some settings since I am a non professional person.
I' ve checked it up and realized that I must switch on the speaker while I am calling sb up.
I made a mistake writing about the age of my smartphone. It is 'only' 1,5 yrs old.
I always liked Japanese 🏯 technology but another problem are apps taking too much capacity of the 'motherboard'.
Are there any tricks to enlarge its capacity? The external card doesn't help - it is practically ok for pics and unimportant rubbish. I have to decide between FB and Instagram or between Instagram and Googlebooks (I love reading them while traveling ;))))).
Thanks to Mr Cobain @uliwooly @ Jonas :)))

Hi @Camiux,

I'm sorry to hear about that. Slightly_frowning_Face

I want to make sure that I understand your question correctly, when you are either making a call or receiving a call you can't hear anyone but if you connect a headset to your phone, you are able to hear the person you are having a phone call with?

If that is correct, please follow @Shen02 suggestion with trying the phone in safe mode, while the phone is rebooted to safe mode, try the ear speaker in the diagnostics test that @nolramlb recommended.

You can find the test in Settings > About phone > Diagnostics > Test > Ear speaker. Put the phone at your ear prior to starting the test.

Can you hear the sound being played?
