Calender sync problem from Ms Outlook -> google -> Arc

Hi,

I have been using PC companion to sync my ms outlook to google and then to my arc.  One permanent problem which exist is all the re-occurence events no able to sync from google to arc.  It went well from ms outlook to google.  When I tried to create a new re-occurence event, it works well.

Please advice if you know of any step which I have been missed out?

Thanks.

I might have misunderstood this one but isn't this the same thing that I reported?

All MS Outlook re-occurring events that are imported to Google won't sync while the ones created in Google (still re-occurring) will sync just fine. Right? This is what I reported.

Hi Marcus, no, what you have said is exactly incorrect. I don't mean that to sound impolite, it is just that exactly the reverse is true according to my lengthy experimentations today - see below:

I have submitted the following tests to simulate faults. The outcome of each test is in italics after the summary of the test. My sync rules are set up to “always ask” and to sync 4 weeks before and 12 weeks after.

1.       Using my SE Arc, I created a new appointment at 10am-11am, called “Test 1” and dated Monday 5th September 2011 (this is the first Monday of the month). I set the appointment up to run recurrently every first Monday each month for twelve months.

2.       Using my Google Calendar, I created a new appointment at 11am-12pm, called “Test 2” and dated Wednesday 14th September 2011 (this is the second Wednesday of the month). I set the appointment up to run recurrently every second Wednesday each month for twelve months.

3.       Using my MS Outlook Calendar, I created a new appointment at 12pm-1pm, called “Test 3” and dated Friday 23rd September 2011 (this is the fourth Friday of the month). I set the appointment up to run recurrently every fourth Friday each month for twelve months.

After synchronisation (creation), the following was noted:

1.       After the first synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – the appointment was still present and correct

b.      On my Google Calendar – the appointment had been installed correctly

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – the appointment was installed on Monday 26th September, and, when opened, was set to recur on the LAST Monday each month

2.       After the first synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – the appointment had been installed correctly

b.      On my Google Calendar – the appointment was still present and correct

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – the appointment was installed on Wednesday 28h September, and, when opened, was set to recur on the LAST Wednesday each month

3.       After the first synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – the appointment had been installed correctly

b.      On my Google Calendar – the appointment had been installed correctly

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – the appointment was still present and correct

After re-synchronisation (creation), the final outcomes were:

1.       After the second synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – No changes, still correct

b.      On my Google Calendar – No changes, still correct

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – No changes, still incorrect

2.       After the second synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – No changes, still correct

b.      On my Google Calendar – No changes, still correct

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – No changes, still incorrect

3.       After the second synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – No changes, still correct

b.      On my Google Calendar – No changes, still correct

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – No changes, still correct

After deleting the appointment from its original source point of creation and synchronisation, the outcomes were:

1.       After the first synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – the appointment was deleted

b.      On my Google Calendar – the appointment was deleted

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – the appointment was deleted

2.       After the first synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – the appointment was deleted

b.      On my Google Calendar – the appointment was deleted

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – the appointment was deleted

3.       After the first synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – the appointment was deleted

b.      On my Google Calendar – the appointment was deleted

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – the appointment was deleted

After deleting the appointment from its original source point of creation and re-synchronisation, the final outcomes were:

1.       After the second synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – No change

b.      On my Google Calendar – No change

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – No change

2.       After the second synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – No change

b.      On my Google Calendar – No change

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – No change

3.       After the second synchronisation the following was observed:

a.      On my SE Arc – No change

b.      On my Google Calendar – No change

c.       On my MS Outlook Calendar – No change

In conclusion, under certain circumstances, I believe that MS Outlook is passing uncorrupted data toward Google Calendar via the Sony Ericsson PC Companion synchronisation pathway, but SE Arc, or more properly Google Calendar, is passing corrupted data toward MS Outlook via the reverse pathway. SE Arc does not use a proprietary calendar, but simply slaves from the Google Calendar, so my testing has proven categorically that there is a problem with setting MONTHLY RECURRENT APPOINTMENTS in Google Calendar for a pre-set day in the month, each month. Google Calendar itself, keeps the correct data correctly within itself, but does not transfer the information correctly to the other client – in this case, MS Outlook – where these appointments consistently become recurrent monthly appointments of the last XXXday of the month.

For your information, my PC system details are as follows:

HP Pavilion tx2500 Notebook PC
Windows Vista Home Premium ©2007 SP2
Microsoft
®Outlook®2002 (10.6863.6870) SP3

You already have my SE Arc details

Perhaps you can persuade your technical people to use this to reproduce the faults and liaise with Google and, if neccessary, MS.

Sincerely,

Peter

I forwarded your feedback on not being happy with the first repsonse (as I said I would). This below is what I got in response. Apparently they are not able to get the same problem. I hope this below helps. I do unfortunately not have any further info than what's posted here below.

As our test results, synchronization between MS outlook, Google account and Phone are all working fine, the calendar re-occurrence events can be synced to phone normally.  For the problem you encountered, we have following comments for your reference:
1.       Make sure the email accounts are valid and correctly configured on phone
2.       Make sure the auto sync is activated in phone settings.  Settings->accounts & Sync->Activate auto-sync
3.       To Export the calendar from MS outlook, open the calendar events in outlook, save as iCalendar format.  For recurrence events, please choose “open the series” when editing and exporting the calendar from MS outlook.
4.       To import the calendar to Google, please follow the instruction trough this link http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en-Hans&answer=37118 .
5.       Start sync and waiting until finished.

Sorry for getting to this old post but I'm having a similar problem here...

1. Created a recurring event on directly on Google Calendar (via browser):

06Jan2012

Monthly, on first friday day of each month

No end date

2. Sync'ed (1st time) with PC Companion (last version) and MS Outlook 2003 and got on MS Outlook:

"Occurs the last  friday of every 1 month effective 06-01-2012"

3. Sync'ed (2nd time) with PC Companion (last version) and MS Outlook 2003 and got on Google Calendar:

"... last friday..."

Seems step 2 is the problem...

Can you please try to replicate this situation?

I kept my Arc S out of the situation for easier understanding.

Many thanks.
