Problem with updating

I updated my Xperia Play to Android 2.3.4, 4.0.1.A.0.283 using uliwooly-wooly's guide. Afterwards I get a message to update the software to 4.0.2.A.0.42. After downloading I try to install it. Except after it reboots it tells me the installtion failed. Is there any way I can resolve this?

simple, repeat the process with Flashtool to repair your phone then use SEUS to update to the latest version, and this time do not unplug the phone too soon

Repair my phone with the Flashtool, huh? How would I do that? Just repeat the same process that I used to upgrade my phone?

or  you can use flashtool again and install the latest update
