Built In WiFi problem

Built In WiFi problem

I have a Sony Bravia 55xe8396b TV bought just over a year ago and suddenly seem to be having a major issue with the WiFi on it.

Since getting the TV  we've had multiple occasions where the WiFi has dropped and we've been unable to reconnect at the time, however usually a few days later the issue has sorted itself and we've been able to continue as usual. About 4 months ago, I reset the internet connection with the TV to the WPS setting and since then we've had no problems at all.

Until Thursday, I went to watch Netflix and got a message to say the TV wasn't connected to the internet. When I went back to the home screen and to the settings, I noticed the WiFi button was in the off position. I tried to turn it back on but it keeps flicking straight back to the off position.

I'm now in the process of factory resetting the TV to see if that helps, but for a TV a little over a year old, we didn't anticipate having these problems. A quick google search shows that a lot of people have issues with the internet connection on Sony TVs, so I think this might be our last one if we can't rectify the issue.

Has anyone else had this same issue or something similar? I'm not sure what else to try!

I’m still having this problem and none of the above solutions have worked.

Hi @DizzyPippa

make sure the software version is at least 6.6555 before the last factory reset : https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/lcd-tvs-android-xe80xx_x80xxe_xe83xx-series/kd-55xe8396/d...

If the issue remains, I think repair would be your only other option.

Hi! Sorry for not aswering so long. Regarding my TV - it was switched off and was not connected to Internet for long time (2 months). It was set to use network time. So wben I,v switched it on, TV time was wrong, and I belive it was a reason why TV could not connect to Internet. Clock failed to get automatically updated to network time, due to TV could not connect to this network. After setting correct time manually, TV had successfully connected to Internet. So in my case a fact that auto time update option was not worked because TV could not connect to Internet due to difference between network time and TV clock. Excuse me if my english not good enough.

Hi,

I'm glad to hear that. It seems that this workaround fixes the issue for most if not all users!

Press the power button down on your remote and hold it down for about 6 seconds release the button let it restart you should see Coloured shapes flashing just leave it till its done, if it doesn’t work the first time try it again it worked for me.

Yes I have the same problem and it is driving me mad! It’s so annoying because you can not flip the WiFi switch over because it flips it the off. I have restored this to factory settings but am getting sick of doing this!!!
