Hi all,
2nd question in a short space of time after my 1st question was answered very quickly!
Looking to get KD65XH9005 for gaming. It is listed as one of 2 TV's that will have 2 x HDMI 2.1 ports, but requires a firmware update to enable all the features - VRR / ALLM / 4k@120 (I believe eArc is already enabled and can run on HDMI 2.0). Does anyone know if the firmware has been updated to include these features or if not, any dates as to when they will enable it? Will it be done to coincide with the PS5 release?
I hope that Sony don't go back on their word and promise it will be enabled and never come round to updating the firmware.
Thanks.
The firmware is not still released and you won't find any official date commitment. It will be released for sure though
Thanks for the response again.
Sony has an app out that announces updates if you're interested: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00204426?cpint=spt-subfooter_sbs

Brilliant, that's a great help. Downloaded the app, looks good, here's hoping for news of a firmware update soon!
Thanks!
I wouldn't rely on Sony giving a firm date on when the update will be available. The model should have been released with the HDMI 2.1 features available ready of of the box like LG do on many sets. It is unlikely that the firmware will be ready in time for PS5 launch, more likely 2021. If Sony go back on their word, then under the sales of goods act in UK, return the TV to the retailer for a replacement or refund.
Thanks, not news I wanted to hear, but I knew I would run that risk before I bought it. I was hoping the update would come before the PS5 launch, but I took my chance. I have no idea why Sony would even risk not getting the firmware ready or out of the box as they market HDMI 2.1 features so much, it seems ridiculous.
Thanks for that. Doesn't sound great, vague dates as always from Sony is never good thing. I find it crazy that the company that produces the most popular games console in the world is not able to co-ordinate with their own TV arm to produce an end to end system that is optimised on day 1 whilst other companies (e.g. LG) are ready for it. How can this be? I think this is a missed opportunity by Sony not to shift far more TV's based on the demand for PS5 by not being ready for it. Guess the 2.1 gaming features will have to wait for a few more months then, assuming they will turn up at all.
