A recent update seems to have stopped the bbc iPlayer from playing UHD programmes. They worked fine before the update late November. Anyone else had similar issues and found a fix ?

Yep if I turn off my amp then UHD in iPlayer works as does playback in the other catch-up apps which also wasn’t working! Is this a Sony firmware issue or a Youview issue?

Just unplugged my sonos system and UHD iPlayer now works fine. How very random!

Just wonder how Sony/bbc/youview will resolve it?

Hey guys, it seems to me that one of the devices is overriding the other, hence, the power cycle should resolve the issue.

Following on from these revelations I've found on my KD-XH8505 the iPlayer will play in UHD just by simply flicking the audio from 'Audio System' to 'TV speakers' on the settings menu bar (available via "cog" key ). Flick it back to 'Audio System' and it stops playing.
I'm also pretty sure it plays in UHD when casting from my phone using the TV's Chromecast built-in feature BUT ALSO with the sound set on 'Audio System' with the AV receiver playing the audio in DD+

I am now pretty certain the problem was introduced with firmware update 6.4960 which covers a lot of the xg and xh models

Hi just noticed that Sony have removed firmware 6.4960 from their support pages, hopefully a fix coming soon.

I have installed this software on my KD-48A9. As a matter of interest, when firmware is removed from support pages, do Sony remove the update from the TV or send down a patch to correct the faults?

Usually another update is delivered as a bug fix.
That said, when a version is pulled/frozen or anything like that, there's usually an official statement so I'm thinking this is just a technical or database issue of some sort maybe?

- Although not the same TV but perhaps the same problem, worth letting people know anyway, I bought a Sony Bravia 65XH9296 a couple of months ago and have never been able to watch BBC iPlayer UHD content on it, I’ve only had the spinning wheel and black screen, SD is fine. Just before Christmas, I contacted the iPlayer team through their UHD online contact form and got the following reply today, which instantly fixed the problem. I use a Sony sound bar and when reverting back to TV speakers, iPlayer UHD works perfectly, let’s hope that Sony get that software update out soon
- We're sorry to see you haven't been able to enjoy UHD content on BBC iPlayer recently; we can certainly appreciate how disappointing that would be.
We're aware of an issue affecting UHD playback on certain Sony 2020 TV devices. Sony have identified that the issue is caused when external speakers are connected to the device and selected via the Sound menu. They're looking to fix the issue with a software release.
In the meantime, if you are experiencing this issue and would like to watch UHD content please select the TV Speakers option from the Sound menu on your Sony TV and relaunch BBC iPlayer. Alternatively, you can still choose to watch the content in SD with your external speakers enabled. To do this, launch BBC iPlayer and select Settings > Settings & Help > Video Quality > Standard Definition.
We believe this is only affecting Sony TV 2020 YouView A1 and Sony TV 2020 YouView B1 devices which includes the following models:
A8 series
A85 series
A9 series
XH80 series
XH81 series
XH85 series
XH91 series
XH95 series
ZH series
X92 series
XH90 series
XH92 series
