Can I play my 4th gen Ipod Mini via the USB socket on a Sony Micro HiFi?

We have a Sony Micro HiFi set-up in a holiday apartment and since I've just revived this little iPod Mini, I was wondering if I could plug it in to the USB Socket on the front of nthe Sony Unit and play music as I can with my Cambridge Dock?

Just googling for a "looky likey", I think it might be this one "Sony CMT-EH25".

Hi theracles,

Welcome to our community!

The compatibility of USB devices that can be connected vary depending on the model so could you try to make sure that this the correct model number of the system you have? You'll find the exact model number of your system on a sticker on the back of the system.

I've checked for you about the CMT-EH25 and unfortunately, it's not supported as mentioned on page 31 of the user manual.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Batee5

Thanks batee5, since the unit and I are currently 1000 miles apart, I cannot easily check the model No!

Thanks for the link to the Manual, it does look like the same model.

It seems to suggest I might have some success with a simple USB stick with an uncomplicated file structure so I'll try that also whern I'm next "out".

Regards.

Ok folks, I've managed to doge the snow and bunk off to Mallorca for a week or two😊

I was correct, the mini HiFi is in fact  the "CMT-EH25".

Things have moved on, and I have a new plaything!

it's an Amazon "Fire 7 Tablet with Alexa", ...What fun exploring it!

my query now relates to the use of the front mounted USB socket on the "CMT-EH25", for charging the Fire Tablet.

It has been connected most of each day and keeps the tablet's battery topped up.

Last night the HiFi unit's display caught my eye since it was displaying a rolling message saying "over current, over current" repeatedly.

Not being technically aware, all this imparts to me is that something is not right!

Charging today using both this USB socket, and the dedicated charger has presented no problems, and the message has not appeared again.

Can anyone advise what it meant, in layman terms, and if something is damaged, what is damaged?

Thanks.

Any one able to advise me?

I'm only here another two weeks and would like to understand what's wrong with this HiFi's USB socket!
