BDP-S480 output issues on KDL-V40A12U

Need some advice as this is doing my nut.

I bought a Sony BDP-S480 from a friend and cannot get it to output on my main TV (Sony KDL-V40A12U).  The picture struggles to show anything and constantly flickers, even on the home screen.  However the sound appears to be OK.

When connecting the blu-ray player to my other Sony TV (KDL-32EX503), the output is viewable, but not perfect.  There are red pixels when the home screen first shows.

I have fiddled around with the settings but am now lost.  Please help.

Sounds like the Blu-ray player is faulty possibly? Have you tried different HDMI cables just to see if that is the issue. Should certainly work perfectly on the 503 and no reason why it wouldn't work on the A12 either assuming you are connecting via HDMI..

If I do a factory reset on the player but am unable to get a picture - even to navigate around the menus - on either TV set, does this point further to a faulty Blu-ray player?
