Hi I have a Sky Q box, Sony TV and Sony CT790 sound bar and I’ve just added two Sony ZR5 speakers for surround sound. The system works fine when using the tv without Sky but I don’t get any sound from the sound bar or extra speakers when using Sky Q. I’m sure it’s to do with the connections from the Sky Q box but need advice on what to connect to where. The Sky Q has an HDMI connected to the TV, the TV then connects to the sound bar with an optical cable and an HDMI Arc cable. Can anyone suggest best way to connect between the three units? Thanks

Hi PJBull,
That's an interesting set up you have there. First of all, you don't need to connect the sound bar to the TV with ARC and optical at the same time, I'd go for ARC alone since it allows using Bravia Sync as well as getting the audio signal across. Maybe this step alone will do the trick. Also, does the audio of the SKY Q box come out of the sound bar if the extra ZR5s are not connected?
P.s. your connection map looks okay to me so there is chance this issue is related to either the settings of the SKY box or incompatibility.

Hi Ryan,
Ok I took your advice and connected Sky Q via HDMI straight to the CT790 and now get sound out of the two ZR5 speakers so thanks that seems to have solved that problem. The only other thing I notice is that due to room layout I sit quite far from the tv and sound bar (tv sits on top of sound bar) with the two speakers behind me. I don’t seem to be able to get enough volume out of the two ZR5’s that are behind me and quite close when the sound bar volume is turned up high. In fact it’s hard to hear the ZR5’s although I know they are working if I get up close to them I can hear them! Any idea how I can get more volume out of the ZR5’s without having the sound bar turned up to max which then drowns out the speakers?
Glad that helped
In the wireless surround settings of the soundbar, on the top of the Home menu, it will say Wireless Surround (Connected) there is an option for Surround Speaker Setting(I think) where you can adjust the distance of the speakers to where you sit and the level (volume) of the speakers
Hi Ryan,
Yep you are right there is a setting there which I have set to 3m but I am planning on trying this when I get a moment, not sure what the maximum distance will be but hopefully by increasing it I am hoping it will increase the volume. Will let you know once I get a chance to try it, thanks.
Hi Ryan,
One more question, do you get a decent level of volume from your ZR5's?
I havent had time to make the change to the distance of the speakers yet as I am at work but what worries me is I saw a thread on the Sony US website complaing about the same problem in 2017 but there didnt seem to be a resolution.
I do, at one point I had to go in and turn down the level of the speakers as I had it set too high
