Phone calls (and log) not recognizing Contact's numbers

A few days ago, my xperia m4 aqua stopped recognizing my contacts. When I receive a phone call or when I check my "recent calls" screen all I see is numbers, even thougn they are numbers of known Contacts. If I open the Contacts app, they are there with names and numbers as they always have.

How can this be? Any suggestion? Any setting (even though I haven't changed any recently)? Thanks in advance.

backup all your contacts with Google > then remove all the contacts from your phone > restart the phone > sync again with google.

settings > apps > all > phone > clear data > restart the phone > check again.

I'm afraid that didn't do it. Still no Contact's name after clearing data and restarting phone.

The only strange thing I noticed is that I have 2 "Phone" applications; is that normal?... in any case I cleared the data for both and restarted the phone. Still nothing.

yeah that's normal, boot on safe mode and report back.

Ok, so I tried SafeMode and the problem persists... no contacts recognized. Is it that bad?

At first it didn't work, but one final restart at the end did it. Thanks a lot for the help!
