I was using Bluetooth to pair Xperia 8 with a speaker. I dont know if that caused it, but I cant get the sound back on the phone's normal speaker. Through Bluetooth, the sound is fine. I have switched off the settings for Bluetooth countless times, unpaired it with the speaker. Turned off the phone, and turned it on again. Took out the battery. I even typed this phone configuration setting to get to the speaker but it doesnt seem to apply to X8. I have checked the updates and that is fine too. Checked out the posts from different places, none seem to solve my problem.

the lockscreen is the screen w/ the "Slide Lock"
let's say that your phone's screen is off and you press the power button to turn on the screen, what you see is the "LOCKSCREEN" with the time, date and a slide bar at the bottom, do NOT unlock, just enter the sequence.
the HOME button its the one with a SQUARE the Back the one with an arrow and the MENU the one with 4 parallel lines
in the picture above from left to right MENU HOME BACK
Hi, if you have tried all possible settings, would suggest doing a Reset.
Goto Settings>Privacy>Factory data reset>Reset phone>Erase everything. This will of course erase phone data completely (SD Card not affected), remember to backup.
If still not able to resolve your issue, Software Repair will be next.
Keep us updated.
Hi,
The very same thing happened to me; my 'normal' sound just stopped working today but I can hear on the loudspeaker. I did the factory reset but that didn't work:-( Who should I contact next? Do you know if this is a 'solvalbe' problem (without costing the earth either?!).
Thanks & regards,
Claire
Hi, do you mean during call?
Hiya,
Yes, making or taking a call. I can hear if I put the phone on loudspeaker but have no sound whatsoever otherwise.
Claire
Hi, perform a test in phone service menu. From lockscreen, press Home Back Back Home Back Home Home Back (Home and Back are phone hard buttons). A service menu will appear, select service test>earphone. Place earphone against ear, can you hear anything? If not, it would mean that you need to send it for repair for hardware problem. Good luck and keep us updated.
Thanks so much for your help. Did the earphone test and not a sound :smileycry:.
On the plus side, it's given me an excuse to buy a new phone so I'm just off out to buy the Xperia Ray (torn between the Arc and the Ray, but think the Arc feels a little big).
Thanks again,
Claire
No problem, Claire .... I guess you can always use your X8 as a spare phone, I believe you should be able to use it with a earpiece.
Anyway, since you have narrowed down your choice, you just have to view and feel them to make a decision.
Have fun choosing and enjoy your next new toy.
Sorry I couldnt access my account sooner. I was hoping not to go nuclear with a reset. But if I were to do that, I am considering if this would be the time to upgrade the Android to Gingerbread version so I can move applications to the SD card. Is this advisable for Xperia 8? And it seems that it didnt do much good for Claire. Apart from that,I dont really know where to locate the speaker phone with back home buttons. I dont seem to have any. So overall it is possible to say that the speaker is gone?
Finally you are back!
Are you referring to Gingerbread custom rom for your X8 as there will be no official SE pdate for X8? Anyway, it is totally up to you. By doing so, you could void your warranty (if it is still valid).
Ok, back to your issue .... actually, Claire's and your problem are quite different. If you don't wish to perform a reset, you can do a service test first. The HOME and BACK buttons are the hard silver buttons just below the screen (3 of them). Follow the stated steps above, when a service menu appears, select service test>speaker.
Let us know what is the result.
