this is driving me mad. Every time i click on start it says a new program is installed? i have opened every program in my laptop PCG-FR415S even tried unstalling some of the viao software. and upgraded to xp pro still there. why won't it go away?
thanks

well from what i gather that shows because the programs its on on about havnt been seen/used yet. altho im not entirely sure. thats because i use the classic style start menu, its just easier to navigate, clearer and more efficient. it also doesnt get wise and start patronising you by reminding you that youve installed programs, i wont be talked down to by a microsoft product
Changing the start menu to classic style is straitforward and i assume you dont need need help but if so then msg me.

Or run the registry mod from line 194 (column1) of http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

The new programs installed doodad will never darken your door again.

Did you download & apply the correct registry edit? - there are two on the same line - the disable and undo disable new program notification edits.
