Storing phone numbers in the presets

I have just bought a new car music system which is compatible with my iPhone. However, although the phonebook has downloaded ok from my iPhone, I cannot store my most used numbers into the 6 presets.  I have checked with the retailer where I bought the device who thinks the problem is with the iPhone.  I can scroll through my phonebook on my device and manually find numbers but that is not feasible whilst driving.  Any suggestions would be welcome.  Everything else works great and my iPhone has paired with the device and music etc. works great.

A model number would help but if it's a DD TS unit you simply call up the chosen number as if you are going to dial it and then you should get a box with dial and another with preset written in it, just press preset and it stores, hth.

If it's single din then I can't help.
