I'm the owner of XA2 more than week and I noticed one irritating bug - during a call, after approx. first 10-20 seconds my display "awakes" and I always press Speaker button by my cheek and my conversation hear all people around. I know that it's quite common issue for many XA2 owners. Are you going to fix this issue somehow?
Thx.
I have the same problem on XA.
I have a brand new XA2 and facing the same issue. As this was flagged several months ago, looks like there isn't a resolution. So I have a cell phone that is good at everything but its main function: making calls!
I also have same problem! This is my first and last phone from Sony!!!
Sadly. my XA2 suffers the same problem. The sensor has a range of about 2 cm. The short range is made much worse by the end plates protruding the surface of the body. This makes pressing the phone against the ear uncomfortable, especially during longer calls, and thus one tends to keep it further away. Two poor design choices by Sony.
I wonder if there are any work-arounds. For example, a 3rd party phone app that doesn't have on-screen buttons, or only in the bottom area ?
Also, many claim that this is simply a software problem. In this case, switching to LineageOS may help. Does anyone have experience with that on the XA2 ? And if yes, did it solve the proximity sensor problem ? (I used LineageOS on a Moto G5. It worked quite well for over a year, but then started acting weird, basically rendering the phone useless, with no practical recovery path. Battery consumption was very high.)
Same here never xperia again... Too long without a fix
Had the same issue on my XA1, and on my new XA2 too.
But, as a fix.. Pressing the lock button in a call will lock the screen and the sensor will not activate. Not ideal but helps for long calls. Just make sure the option "Power button ends call" in accessibility is switched off.
Regarding Lineage as a potential fix:
Nope.
I have been using Lineage on my XA2 while my wife uses stock. Both have severe proximity sensor problems. I don't think Sony will ever address this problem. Really disgraceful. There are $50 phones do the basics better than this fancy turdlet.
Same issue here. I have already contacted sony and no real feedback, only the usual answers based on "use safe mode - reinstall - use companion". The answer is not dependent on the issue. The FM app has never be fixed but the answers are the same. Yet, this is a really serious issue; I lost a lot of important phone calls because of it and my relatives and friends are starting to ask me to change my phone. I had an xperia m2, an xperia m5, an xperia X. All of them where plenty of issues (in particular the m series) but I tryed to resist on sony since I like some features, as for instance the battery of this xa2. But not being able to make a phone call changes the game and makes this phone the last sony phone I am going to buy.
If you really can't solve the problem, at least change the position of the mic mute in the phone call interface. Just had another mic mute during a call and this is the conversation just after the issue with my interlocutor: "Change that f... phone! And don't buy a sony, because they don't work".
Just a workaround (not a solution): I installed a different dialer from the store (in my case Dialer Ios13 style, the first reasonable one I found). The proximity sensor keeps to fail, and I still activate unwanted functions during calls, but probably due to a different position of the mute button I have been able to avoid the mute problem.
Not really a great solution but at list the phone can be used for calls.
