I have two issues I would like to get some feedback on:
1) When I just bought my Xperia Z, there were no connectivity issues and everything worked just as it should have. After the first update, the phone started to have trouble with connecting to mobile network data services (GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSPA), despite the fact that the signal was strong and there is a mobile data service in the area. To correct this issue, I have to turn my WiFi and mobile data off and then turn the mobile data back right on. Mobile data is then magically appears and works without a problem. Also, if I do not turn the WiFi off, this trick doesn't seem to work. Once again, this issue appeared only after the first update. The second update didn't fix it, as I was hoping.
2) "Location based Wi-Fi" feature seems to connect to WiFi only when I turn on phone's display. Before I do that, the phone seems to stay on a mobile network data connection, no matter how long I have a working WiFi available in the area. Combined with a the first bug I've described, this often puts me to a state with no connection at all without me even knowing it.
Those two bugs are really frustrating and annoying, making me considering changing the phone.
Please advise on how to fix those issues or would there be a fix in the next update?
You don't need to root your phone to back up app data just connect your phone to pc copy everything from the internal memory, I always do this to backup
I have never used sony backup software so sorry can't comment on that
You bet I do have a copy of my phone's internal memory. I've change phones about twice a year and I know how to transfer data from one to another. But you can't just copy the app data from the phone. It is stored on a different partition with forbidden access, unless you have root.
Well, I'll have to check the Sony software, perhaps it does do some app data backup.
Found an app to backup app data without root
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en
I haven't rooted my phone but am still able to backup app data by connecting to pc, strange maybe i have a special phone
damn, the restore file I created is corrupted. settings, appearances and apps are gone
Sorry to hear that, i didn't use that app to backup my data i just copy it to pc as i told you. I just suggested that app to rozhy2k because i read on xda that this app works
But is the wifi issue fixed now?
I can't use that Helium app, as it requires the phone to enter PTP mode, instead of MTP. When I do that, the phone automatically switches back to MTP. Perhaps it's a Windows 8 issue or something else, I would have to dig in it later.
About copying the files from internal storage. Do you mean you copy the pictures and some other folders that apps may use to store their data in?
Or do you mean the actual app data, such as settings of the app? If these are the settings, then how do you "just copy" them? For example, Skype/Whatsapp history or some game achievement, so, when you reinstall it after a system wipe, the data will be there?
I copied everything from my phone to pc didn't see what was being copied , but when i put all the stuff back after reapair no data was lost everything was there intact
For helium app you don't need to connect to a computer as it makes a backup in the cloud like dropbox or google drive which you can restore later
Well, that's not what tha app says, once you run it. Actually, without PTP, it aborts its execution.
Xperia Z do have mobile signal/connectivity issue . 1.changed SIM card. 2.Sony replace the handset(1 week waiting..). still same problem. running on .253. very disppointed with this flagship product. not sure what is next option. hope sony fix the major problem.
wireless seems working fine.
If this bug isn't going to be fixed in the next update, I'll have to say good bye to Sony and move on to some other company, because as of the moment I have to do the phones work, finding the networks for him and not the other way around.
Regarding WiFi, just this morning, I've had my phone in oblivion, until I've turned it on and unlocked it. Then, all of a sudden, it moved its butt and finally connected to the local WiFi. And I don't have no Stamina Mode on.
So, I agree with you, very disapointing. Besides, I see no Sony employees replying to these messages. So, it is doulbe disapointment for me.
