2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

To tcviper, I agree what abt the 5.1 issue..Tested netflix & still saying 2.0.... lucky enough I use a blu-ray player that came free with TV & shows 5.1 going through TV & out!

Just treated myself to a KDL-43W755. I'm probably doing something wrong/silly, but is there a way to pre-select TV programmes on the Guide, so the set swaps channels for me automatically on some kind of 'timer'?

Also, is there a way to go up and down a page on the programme Guide?

My old KDL-40V2500 would happily do both of these basic functions, and I'm a bit disappointed tbh.

Edit: Home screen issues have been resolved, perhaps it was a server-side issue? Also, having had more time in front of the screen since the update, I've noticed that the SD picture quality seems better / smoother --  I'm presuming this is due to the improvements to picture quality mentioned in the update notes.

I'm also experiencing a number of home screen related issues after installing today's update. The home screen appeared to restart numerous times after the initial post-installation boot but thankfully now appears stable, however, there is now a constant, unsuccessful attempt to load recommendations and the featured app section has disappeared.

In addition, the general performance of the home screen feels worse when overlayed over input source video (even more so than before the update); opening an app or the system settings and returning via the 'back' button speeds things up, likely due to the static background image that replaces the video. Finally, whilst I can't say for certain whether boot times have increased, the boot animation seems much more sluggish.

Anyone with a Playbar got DD5.1 working through hdmi? Loads of old Sony TVs supported that so I hope they haven't removed that feature with the 2015 TVs.

Edit: never mind, was a setting on ps4.

Hi Marco_Polo_123.

I too also can't find any kind of reminder feature nor does it currently have the option to page up and down. I'm sure it will be released in a future firmware update. Why can't they build something and need not have any need to update it.

Does anyone know how to get picture in picture, shows it as a feature on the specification page on Sony website

Do you have a link to the web page? I can't find anything that references PIP. I have a Humax you view box though and that has PIP, so maybe it's a reference to that which is going to be delivered (maybe), along with everything else that doesn't work in a firmware update "summer 2015"....

Subtle difference there, your first question referred to "Picture IN Picture", that refers to "Pciture AND Picture". Which one are you after?
