Everything is fine with the recording. I can see the 4k videos in my phone with no problems. The problems arise when I get the 4k videos out of it.
I first tried to play them in my computer using VLC and it didn't work well, so I used another program to successfully play them. I figured out that it was all because of the HEVC encoding that the phone uses. Strangely, I tried to play the phone's 4k videos in my 4k tv (HEVC capable). It didn't work. I thought it was my TV's problem, so I downloaded another HEVC video and it did play just fine in the tv.
What's different about the 4k video files that this phone produce? I downloaded another 4k video from another Xperia M5 and it still didn't play. So what's exactly different with the files?
Thanks.

Got information that it is not available on the M5. You cannot change file format.
could you check which recording file type was set? h.264 or h.265.
The phone uses h.265 for 4k recording. h.264 for anything else. (HEVC stands for h.265)
I think this can be helpful. The left one is the phone's 4k video file. The right one is the 4k h.265 (HEVC) file that does play in my tv.
Also I can't upload these files directly to youtube. Supposedly because of the h.265 encoding too. Is it the same with other Xperia phones? I've seen some 4k videos uploaded, but maybe they just converted back to an allowed format.
you can manually change the recording file type in 4k videos. have you tried both file types?
How can I do that?
@Tomizaky Switch to 4K in more apps from camera, then tap on 3 dots and you should be able to select format.
With the Xperia M5? It doesn't give me that option. I can just choose preview and microphone options. Any idea on what I am missing?
Well, that's sad. Thanks then
