Very bad experience with the Sony Experia M4.
Yesterday I received the phone in my house. I was very excited, and I took a big disappointment.
I tried to make pictures, and has given me the camera error, unknown error.
I did everything recommended in the website, I restarted the phone, I went into settings, camera, clear data, and nothing.
I try to download the computer program, PC Companion, but I can not, It said that I lost the connection, but I have internet..that why I think it is a problem of the website.
The trouble, I have to go to a store, and I have no time for that, let the phone, unable to communicate and stay for who knows how much longer.
If I could change that Sony Xperia M4 for another brand, I would do it without thinking, but I have a two-year contract with the telephone company with which I bought, so I have to wait two years ... what a pity.
Sorry to hear this but you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care and have your device inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
or
Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data so best to backup before you begin
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP
Good luck if you need to send it to Sony for repair.
They have a policy of not replacing even the brand new phones.
My M4 Aqua has been in their hands for 2 weeks and they can't even give me an indication on when I'll be able to get it back.
It was brand new, the phone speaker was not working out of the box, no replacement, I have to wait for them to repair it...
I've had far better experience with other manufacturers. Probably my first and last Sony product.
Hi @Cheez,
Could you try to clear data for the Camera application via Settings > Apps > The tab "All" > Camera > Clear data.
I suggest that you boot your phone into safe mode to see if the camera icon appears while the phone is in safe mode. If you see the same behaviour in safe mode, a software repair via PC Companion would be recommended.
In PC Companion you press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phone/tablet software > Repair phone/tablet (the blue clickable link in the message) > Follow these steps without having your device connected to the PC.
Follow the instruction that appears in the program and do not connect your device until this guide tells you how to connect it.
Hi Murin,
Have you tried any of the suggestions mentioned in this thread? If you have but it still doesn't work, I suggest that you visit nearest service center to have your phone examined by a technician. You can contact your Local support for information about nearest service center and/or how to proceed with this in the best possible way.
