pop up ads

i switched from ios to android just last week. i noticed one thing that irritates me a lot. pop up ads. it literally pop ups everywhere with no apps open even at lockscreen. how can i remove this? i already turned off ads personalization i. google settings

Hi @dunngiven,

The solution is that you have one or more applications installed that contain ads and displays them in your device, not only inside the app, or in rare cases, you have an open tab in Chrome with ads.

If you restart the device in safe mode, do you still have the ads? In safe mode only pre-installed applications will be loaded and we can easily see if any of them is the cause, or if for example, the ads are coming from a web browser.

Am using an Xperia 10 with the latest Android update, of late I have not enjoyed my phone at all because I keep getting these pop ups in seconds which are very annoying that i cannot use my phone. I have stored a number of things on my phone that resetting it now is not an option. I have removed all the apps and games that I downloaded from Play Store with a hope to get this annoying junk pop ups away, but nothing - please help.

Hi @Chibuye, sorry to hear that.

Do you receive pop ups when the device is in safe mode? There could also be pop ups coming from the Chrome web browser so open up Chrome > tap the little square with a number inside it just to the right of the web address field > tap the three dots > Close all tabs.

This will close all open tabs in Chrome.

Hello my Sony family, am using this awesome Xperia 10. May anyone please help me with these annoying adverts that I do not remember submitting to which keep popping up whenever am online. Even now as I type this complaint these pop ups keep coming. I reset my phone 2 weeks ago because of the same hoping that this will go away. I have tried to disable Chrome and clear cache. My phone has become very annoying and boring. It's also using up a lot of data. I have gotten some picture of some of the ads. Please help me.

Hi @Chibuye440, sorry to hear about this and ads are very annoying.

You mention that you have disabled Chrome and cleared the cache, but you have enabled Chrome again and is it when using Chrome you receive the ads, or do they pop-up when using the device as you normally do, making calls, sending text messages and so forth?

If you have enabled Chrome again, open it up and press the little square with a digit inside it to the right of the address bar > tap the three dots in the top right corner > Close all tabs. This will close down all open tabs in Chrome and just keep the main one.

If these ads pop-up when using the device normally, you will need to go through your installed application and see if you have any cleaning apps, performance improving ads, battery performance and so forth as is it very common for them to contain ads.

There are also some settings within the Chrome application to stop pop-up and redirects. To access these settings, open up the Chrome application > tap the three dots in the top right corner > Settings > Site settings > make sure that it says "Blocked" below "Pop-ups and redirects" and under "Ads".
