(Android 8.0 Oreo bug) XF9005 reboot automatically when turn on the TV in Oreo update

Hi

I updated my TV to Oreo, it's working fine except that after a long period of standing by, when I turn the TV on, it will show the Home Screen for 1 sec, then it reboots it self, it shows Sony logo then Android logo animation, it taks 1 min or so to boot.

If I hit power to go to standby and turn it back on again, or in a short amount of time, it won't reboot itself, I only notice this after a long period of time of stand by, e.g. turn on TV next day, it will go to this boot cycle.

My setup:

XF9005 on Oreo V6.5830 android, connect Sonos Beam with ARC, connected to internet by Wifi

Sony could you confirm if this is a known bug in the update?

First thing I did, when they replaced my tv for a newer version, turned of auto update.... Its working right now and keep it this way. Updating a Sony TV is like Russian roulette

Still the same problem after 3 updates on Oreo, the last one from November, still didn't fix the problem. Sony I don't know what you're doing, but COME ON this is ***** me every day for more than a year. Every time there is an update, I have hope and no, still no fix.

This is my last Sony TV, so expensive and yet so cheap...

Try setting Simple IP control to on.  I've been having the same issue and that's the only thing that fixed it.

Hi @ilansas

There are a few things you can still check. As @wingston suggested, Simple IP Control can be a fix. But if the issue remains I recommend checking the following:

1- Does the issue happen with all external devices disconnected from the TV?
2- Does the issue happen with the TV disconnected from both Ethernet and Wi-Fi?
3- Are there any specific apps you downloaded from the store outside of the default ones? It's worth checking if any app is causing issues, or better yet, remove the apps you don't use/need.
4- Try clearing the cache: Settings - Storage and reset - Internal shared storage - Cache - Clear, followed be a power cycle.
5- Try resetting the TV to factory settings.

Let us know how it goes. If the issue remains, give us more info on the devices in your setup (audio system, DVD/BD player, USB HDD, TV box, etc.)

Hi all,

Just to add my experience:  My KD-55XF9005 (bought in January 2019) had been working flawlessly until it started having this reboot issue in November 2020.  The only equipment change was an Xbox Series X using the HDMI-ARC port instead of an Xbox One X.  To begin with, I thought the console might be the cause but the issue happened with nothing plugged into the HDMI-ARC port.  I installed the latest available firmware update (v6.7140) but it didn't fix it, unfortunately.

I stumbled across this thread when looking for a possible fix and, so far, the only thing that's worked reliably for me is using a LAN connection with the onboard Wifi disabled.

UPDATE 28/06/2021:  Installed firmware v6.7165 and the issue still occurs for me.

After update v6.7205, my KD-55XF9005 no longer randomly restarts with all wifi settings turned on.  Thanks for finally fixing it, Sony!
