Couldn't take it anymore, I downgraded to my carrier's official 4.4.4. version of KitKat about 2 weeks ago via the flashtool.
At least now I have my phone back the way it's supposed to be, everything works just as fine as I remember. I would have been happy if Lollipop was never made available for M2/M2 Aqua users in the first place, as there was nothing wrong with KitKat - why change it if it ain't broken?
When the updates start rolling for the rest of the Xperia line I let myself be influenced by all the hype, and after MONTHS of waiting I updated to Lollipop as soon as it was available, only to get completely annoyed by the "upgrade" (is it really an upgrade if it's WORSE THAN THE PREVIOUS OS VERSION?). I tried to be nice, but I'm done. Did the developers even test the new update before making it available to the public? You know, just to see if it works properly? It doesn't seem so, not to me.
And now the camera (which is just the tip of the iceberg) is supposed to be an IMPROVEMENT? WHAT? Has anyone of the software developers even considered that users might want to look at the photos they've taken on anything other than a phone screen? When looking at any of the Lollipop camera photos on a computer screen you don't even need to zoom in to see that it looks like a painting!
In what way is losing of details to make photos appear sharper on a smaller screen a worthy trade-off? If we wanted to achieve a smoother look to our photos WE HAVE APPS FOR THAT! DETAILS CAN BE SMOOTHENED OUT EASILY, BUT YOU CAN'T ADD THE DETAILS THAT WERE NOT EVEN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE! THIS ISN'T FREAKING CSI WHERE YOU CAN MAGICALLY "ENHANCE" PHOTOS SO YOU CAN GET A BAZILLION MEGAPIXEL IMAGE OF A LICENSE PLATE THAT WAS TAKEN THROUGH A DENSE FOG WHILE THE CAR WAS A KILOMETER AWAY FROM YOU!
No matter what size of the screen, photos taken with the old OS (KitKat) look far superior to the Lollipop ones, whether you zoom in fully or not.
I love my M2 Aqua, but this experience has put me off buying any new SONY smartphone again. I don't have enough money to buy a flagship device, and if this is the treatment I can expect by just being a midrange device user, then don't expect any loyalty from me. Why should problems on "cheaper" devices get ignored? We should NOT be treated like peasants. But if SONY wants to lose customers then they can keep doing this as long as they want.
I don't care anymore. I'm now happy with my KitKat OS that actually works, and will keep this phone running (eventually trying some custom ROMs, if it comes to that) as long as I can, and after that I'll turn elsewhere. Never again to SONY.
