Hi, I am from India. After the lollipop upadate, my Xperia m2 dual( 2302) camera shows some isues. Its image looks like artistic picture, lacks details. When zooming its feel too bad. Is any one have this issue?

While there ARE better Sony phones than M2 Aqua, not just everyone can afford them. I don't have enough money to buy a Z5 or Z5 compact, while the mid-range M5 isn't even available in my country (yet). But even if it was, I've only had my M2 Aqua for a year now, and it would be ridiculous to buy a new phone after such a short period of time.

Only the more expensive phones are getting good support. The mid-rangers will probably be supported for a much shorter time span, as is evident from our case - initially M2 wasn't even planned to get Lollipop update. And now we've heard absolutely NOTHING about Sony even trying to fix all the bugs with the new update (and there are many, the camera is just the start of all the problems...). So of course people are losing faith in Sony. We're not fanatics, we simply choose the best phone we can afford, regardless of who made it, and if Sony screws us over it's understandable we won't buy from them anymore.

At this point Sony developers are just sticking fingers in their ears, shutting their eyes and singing "LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU", hoping this would all go away...

You made the right decision, Bender0101 Slightly_smiling_Face

For those that rolled back out of Lollopop, the camrea is all fine now ?

Does anyone know if Sony ever do release a proper fix in Lollipop (ha) will your phone get the latest update?

I'm either going to roll back, or flash to something like Cyanogenmod.

Yeah, camera IS better when you downgrade to KitKat Slightly_smiling_Face

On an unrelated note (unrelated to the software, that is), I too noticed that the bluish film that covered the lens of the main camera on my M2 Aqua has gotten quite worn. A few people on this forum said they've cleaned the film off the lens completely, and afterwards the quality of the photos improved for them. So I decided to give it a go myself, and my first impressions are that IT WORKS! I think it's because the scratches interfered with the camera's sensor and it couldn't focus as well. Anyway, the first few photos indeed look much better, details are great. Gonna test it more tommorow outside, it's night here now Grinning_Face

As I said, this isn't related to the software and I seriously doubt it would do much help if you are still on Lollipop (mind you, while I was on Lollipop the bluish film on the lense was already scratched and the photos were worse than those I took immediately after downgrading back to KitKat). It's just that, in case you have scratched lens too and wonder what to do, just clean the film off with a drop of glass cleaner and a soft cloth and it should be fine Slightly_smiling_Face

Also, Sony just updated the camera app for Z5 but they can't do the same for M2? Shows how much they care about us Slightly_smiling_Face

Ya.. I have also removed that bluish film from camera glass many month ago and its necessary for good images.... but this lollipop problem is worse than that...its purly a software problem so i cant remove bluish film/ bug from this..sorry sony....

Yes, this is merely a simple solution for those that have camera lense with scratched bluish coating (if your lense isn't scratched just leave the coating on, remove it just if it causes you problems), and would NOT fix the problem with image quality after upgrading to Lollipop.

Did some more testing with my now de-coated KitKat camera, and image quality has indeed improved a bit more, now my photos are just as sharp as they were the day I got the phone. No problems with focus, everything is sharp and detailed, even when you fully zoom in. Sure, there are some grainy bits here and there and the objects that are most far away from you do appear a bit muddy, but it's just LEAGUES above what the camera on Lollipop produced, as some of my Lollipop photos don't even need to be zoomed in to appear like paintings, even when looking at them on my phone screen, let alone my PC.

What Sony did with the camera on Lollipop update defies any logic. No matter how you look at it, it is NOT an improvement. I might understand if the photos would look better at least on the phone screen as long as you wouldn't zoom in (which is their reasoning why they consider it an improvement), but they don't.

Again, they had no problem fixing the camera on the new Z5 models and releasing a small update, but they can't be bothered to make a change and fix something that we've been pleading them to do for nearly two months now. I'm glad I downgraded, because I don't expect them to fix any other problems with the update either.

Quick report back:

Snap Camera HDR with sharpness 0 delivered quite good pictures. However, I still prefer the UI of the stock camera.

As if this had not sucked enough, another lollipop thing became really, really annoying:

The permanent notification "Memory low - please move apps or data to SD card".

No wonder, considering the really low space that the fat lollipop rom leaves free.

But, I could have handled it, being around the 1GB mark. But this annoying notification... Together with the potato stock camera, I could not stand this any longer.

So, I unlocked the bootloader, flashed 4.4 stock and rooted. Now I can take nice photos again, have multiple GBs of free memory and can remove all the builtin crapware. However, I will be watching, Sony! If this will not be fixed, I'll never come back as a customer.
